-Local Anarchists Participate in National Day of Action Against Corporate Democracy-

Today, “Super Tuesday,” We Discredit Representative Democracy, and Promote Direct Democracy

From Boston members of the Northeast Anarchist Network:

Today, “Super Tuesday,” Massachusetts voters are turning in for the Primaries to cast their ballots along with voters in 23 other states. Though it is still very early in the election season, we are already down to 4 likely candidates for President—two republicans, two democrats, and not one good choice.

Today, “Super Tuesday,” anti-authoritarians in Boston are participating in the Northeast Anarchist Network’s campaign to “Discredit Representative Democracy and Promote Direct Democracy,” by answering the call of the Anti-Democratic National Convention organizers—Unconventional Denver—for
an International Day of Action against the US elections(See their call below).

Anarchists across the Boston have been carrying out autonomous creative actions such as banner drops, street theater, soapbox speeches, and posting fliers, aimed at educating their fellow Bostonians about the inherent flaws
in government and the beautiful alternatives that exist. They are joining groups of anti-authoritarians and anarchists all across the country in reminding our fellow people that democracy doesn’t mean picking the least terrible candidate to make decisions for us. Democracy is something that is born and thrives in the community. Democracy is participatory, not representative. Democracy is something that the politicians have stolen, and that we are rebuilding building now in our homes, on our streets, at our jobs and in our schools.

We have received photos from some of their actions, as banners have already been sighted across the city. They can be found at:

The Northeast Anarchist Network (NEAN) is a collection of anarchist and anti-authoritarian groups and individuals from Washington D.C. to Maine. NEAN was founded last February in Boston, and has been growing steadily
ever since. There are five NEAN affiliated groups in the Boston Area.

**CALL TO ACTION** On Super Tuesday, We Vote No!

Called by Unconventional Denver

On Super Tuesday, February 5th 24 states will be holding their primaries or caucuses to choose Republican and Democratic presidential candidates.

While the state insists that change comes from us handing over our dreams and passions to the political elite, Unconventional Denver will be sending a clear message to the city of Denver, the Democrats and the country that

We Vote No. We vote no to the candidates on the slate, the Democratic Party and to the corporate two-party system itself.

There will be banner drops and other creative actions taking place around the city rejecting the state and its upcoming conventions. We invite fellow Unconventional Action groups and other anti-authoritarian groups and individuals across the country to carry out similar banner drops, wheatpasting sprees, street theatre, caucus crashing and other creative actions in opposition to the two-party system and to build momentum for this summer's mobilization against the conventions.

Some banner suggestions include:

-WE VOTE NO!

-UNCONVENTIONAL ACTION

-WHOEVER WINS, WE LOSE

-DISRUPT THE DNC!

-CRASH THE CONVENTIONS

For some inspiration, check out the recent action taken by Milwaukee anarchists- http://mke.indymedia.org/en/2008/01/209062.shtml

Our future is not at the caucuses, the primaries, the conventions or the voting booths. WE VOTE NO!

Anarchy isn't the lack of organization. Anarchy is the lack of centralized government authority.

Not having the imagination and energy or mandate to accomplish a working system that lacks government authority*, these young "anarchists" (nihilists, really) seek to simply disrupt the existing process with no idea or plan to implement that sort of system they supposedly seek to erect in calling themselves anarchists.

*yes, these systems have existed and succeeded. An entire rural region of Spain flourished under anarchist principles before being brutally mowed over by Franco's fascists.

Swirly: though it's not nearly as strong as it was in the past, the French anarchist movement is still alive and kicking.

Some of the most interesting, original programming I've heard there comes via Radio Libertaire (the Anarchist Federation's station). It's one of the few stations that isn't party-line, news product, or Pan European commercal crap. Guess it's the closest thing to college radio that I hear there.

Both my boyfriend and I were amazed to see what different animals American Anarchists and French ones are. I was amazed, for example, to see that the Anarchists there were normally the ones who would organize security at manifestations so that things wouldn't get out of hand.

Blew his mind to learn that self-proclaimed anarchists were responsible for an awful lot of violence here in the early part of the 20th century, including the assasination of a President.

to accomplish NOTHING!

(please note, I studied anarchism and lent books freely to young relatives who were interested and even involved, but this sounds really random and purposeless to me).

I guess we should be thankful that not one of the finalists candidates is appealing to anarchists (or antichrists, either).

...let's not forget, Dude, that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city-- that isn't legal either.

good to have a rational reply about the movement these people support, as opposed to the typical "stupid kids" or "anarchy is chaos" replies that seem to flood whenever the word is mentioned.

I, too, study anarchism and when properly executed its really an amazing and empowering ideal (again, Spain 1930s). Unfortunately, this country's anarchist movement often falls short in spreading ideas and opening dialogue about WHY the ideas are so powerful. With no venue to really get a message out to a large group of people, their method of distribution is forgivable.. but with nothing behind it (where to organize, how to find out more, discussions etc), itsjust ashame thats the terminus of the argument.

SwirlyGrrl.. as in, swirly? dunking?
