RMV braces for trouble
By adamg on Wed, 02/27/2008 - 4:53pm
Wants to hire armed guards for all branches, following incident involving guy without proof of residency threatening to shoot up the Beverly registry because workers wouldn't give him a state ID. Unlike at the turnpike authority, there are no plans to provide weapons to rank-and-file employees, Registrar Anne L. Collins said.

It's not like this is
It's not like this is something that happens so frequently that they need a dedicated security force. It just doesn't make sense financially. I think that panic buttons should be sufficient and maybe periodic trooper checks here and there.
I agree
Maybe they could have a cop stationed there for a week or so. A cool down period if this guy was anything more than just talk.
Does this include branches at malls
such as the CambridgeSide Galleria 'License Express' ?
Galleria Security
There's already plenty of security over at the galleria - a week doesn't go by that some homey doesn't try to shoplift from Footlocker or Best Buy. Don't you ever see those guys whipping around the mall on their segway scooters? I saw three urban kids drop their hoisted hoodies from Old Navy and get caught because they stopped to laugh.
But what are you going to use for your proof of signahchuh?
I'm gonna bring a cop with me next time I have to go to the RMV to protect myself. Honestly… is it any wonder that people get all raged up at RMVs of the Commonwealth? It's bad enough that the regulations are not only a pain in the ass, but also bizarre, but the employees should be MBTA employees. They are rude, not helpful, indignant, etc. What about ya proof of residence? What about ya proof of signahchuh? What about ya proof of date of birth?
So ridiculous. Can't use the same document twice. And it totally depends on the window/employee you get. One person will say you can use that document for one of the requirements, but another employee will say you can't. It makes you want to knock heads together! That's right.
Head Exploding Situation
I went to an RMV once to pick up plates for a company car. At the window I was told only the person who the car was registered to could pick up the plates. When I pointed out that the car was registered to a corporate entity and not a person, it was like I had asked, "what is the sound of one hand clapping?"
