One Day at Fenway

NESN HD camera operator and independent documentary producer, Tom Guilmette, works the left field camera up by the new Coca-Cola deck in Fenway Park.
He brought his PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX camcorder to work, mounted it on an automated telescope tripod and created this outstanding One Day at Fenway time lapse film from over 7 hours of an evening in Fenway Park (condensed down to one-and-a-half minutes with a frame recorded every 10 seconds of real time).
I think the game is our 12-6 win over Detroit on 4/10.

Does Vimeo not like Macs?
On mine, the movie pauses for about 5 seconds, every 10 seconds. Makes it hard to watch.

Sorry, Ron, maybe you're on a busy network connection currently? I am writing this from a MacBook Pro and I've never had any problems with Vimeo's player buffering or anything.
Try it again at a different time of day and see if the problem persists. You might also want to double check that you're using the latest version of Flash, but that's less likely to be a problem.
Using 768K DSL. Not enough bandwidth?
I'm the only person ever using my network connection, and I wasn't doing anything else with it at the time. But it's a 768K DSL. Is that too slow for Vimeo?

Nah, it's not too slow, of course. A lot of times if your community of users is heavily active, the router upstream of your personal connection just gets slammed.
For example, you could tell when classes ended for the day at BU because everyone would get back to their room and start up their file-sharing programs, check the web, etc. The entire university network would just start to crawl around the same time each afternoon. We were on 100GB ethernet lines there and yet, the upstream router can only handle so much traffic from all directions at once.
In the meantime, it turns out both Digg and Fark saw this video and started sending a lot of traffic at Vimeo all at once for that file. It's possible you were just getting caught up in the mad rush of the entire internet to see it and so it was Vimeo that was running low on bandwidth and not your end. Didn't know it was so well linked until earlier today. Try again in a few hours and see if it works then?
DSL is a dedicated
DSL is a dedicated connection from the providers fiber-to-copper demuxing station. You shouldn't see a slow down when using DSL since it's not shared until it gets to the fiber network and those pipes are massive.
Additionally, I can assure you you weren't on a 100GB network. You were most likely on a 10/100 Megabit network. 1 Gigabit networks are still relatively new.

I've never looked into DSL, but good to know. I'm going to have to guess that it's Vimeo that was giving trouble earlier then. It's not a Mac problem that I've ever encountered with the site.
