A school bus carrying students from the West Roxbury Education Complex crashed into another WREC bus around 2 this afternoon, ParkwayBoston.com reports (with photos). At least four students taken away in ambulances.
That doesn't mean that no school buses have them, but it is a good bet that the large bus contract for-profit corporations like First Student and Vocell don't have them.
I know that Medford doesn't - except on the short buses, of course.
...we make the bus driver, we make kids and adults in cars, even to the point of requiring booster seats and whatnot...but despite serious injuries in buses (school or otherwise), nobody will make seat belts mandatory or even legislate that they be required to be available.
Don't get me started about MBTA buses, which reflect 1950's passenger safety thinking; there isn't a single surface in 'em with any sort of give or padding. It's not the norm everywhere, as I've been on airport shuttles and public transit busses where railings were padded and such.

Seat belts anyone?
A fender bender shouldn't (key word is shouldn't) be cause for ambulances if they were all wearing their seat belts.
Um ...
School buses don't have seat belts, at least, not for the students.
They did when I was in
They did when I was in school.
But then again I was in New Jersey and New Jersey requires them to be installed in school buses. I rescind my statement.

Every single seat, and that was in the early 90's.
I'll ask the expert today
The kidlet, who rides a Boston Public Schools bus twice a day.
School Seat Belts
I took private school buses and public scholl buses in the late 70's thru to the mid 80's and I never saw a seat belt
not required in MA

Well...

Big Yellow Death Traps
My dad has a friend in the transportation safety business who prefers this term to "school bus".
a WRECked bus?
Indeed
I toyed with a headline along the lines of
But most people wouldn't know what that means, since most people still call it West Roxbury High.
paging punsters,
...help urgently needed.
