How did a gazelle wind up in a tree, dead, at the Franklin Park Zoo?

It's an example of how some big cats dispose of their prey. You could go to the zoo today and take the same picture. That plastic gazelle isn't going anywhere.

looks real! glad to know it isn't.

wow... it's a very convincing fake. i figured a lion/tiger/etc would do something like that with a carcass, but couldn't figure out how those species would mix inside the zoo... and i doubted they fed live antelopes/gazelles/anything to the wild cats at the zoo.

interesting. i've been to the zoo several times and have never seen a plastic gazelle in the trees.

It's right by the lion area. Easy to walk past - very low key.

This little exhibit taught me the lesson "look first before having your young and easily spooked child look." Not making that mistake again.

Me: lets walk up this hill and see the zebras

Younger Son, (then age 3): Oh no ... oh no

Me: something wrong (as we walk slowly up and behind the lion den area)

YS: oh ... no ...

Me: can you tell me what is the matter (now in sight of the zebras)

YS: but ... but ... lions are BAD to zebras ...

Me (stopping): Ohhhh ... oh honey, they aren't in the same cages ... let's walk up here ... see, fences for each, and the road goes in between ... they won't eat the zebras, don't worry.

YS: (smiling) oh. good.

For three or four years, my son, now seven, has been explaining the gazelle to anyone we go the zoo with. Cheetahs climb up the tree with the gazelle to keep their catch from other predators and from scavengers, like hyenas.

The zoo has two fixed "telescopes" along the path to the tigers and lions that point at the gazelle and a sign explaining the behavior.

Only one logical explanation...

It was dropped from a UFO after its probing
