Pink Hat Hell wonders:

... Why can't we trade sportswriters like teams trade players? How great would that be? I can think of a perfect one: Tony Massarotti, Dan Shaughnessy, Steve Buckley and John Tomase to Kansas City for Joe Posnanski. The number of people lining up to drive the four of them to the airport would be in the thousands. ...

And one we're likely to meet in the playoffs? That doesn't make sense to me.

Totally understandable objection, but I think that sort of thinking holds people back too much. So many things can happen in a season, I think teams should worry less about who they deal with and more about making moves that will help their team. If we think that people can calm Manny down (and maybe just the deadline passing so that he knows he has no options will do just that -- it happened a few years ago) and he'll just play, then we'll be ok. But it looks like that's becoming a tough thing to accept.

There are probably other teams that could fill the Angels' spot in this deal. Arizona's got a ton of young players. The Dodgers continue to block out a lot of their kids to play inferior older players. Maybe one of them could work instead?
