UPDATE: Feds just making it official, that the Suspect Known as Clark Rockefeller is, in fact, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter.
2 p.m. at FBI Boston office: FBI, State Police, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis and DA Dan Conley all to be there. Nobody listed from LA, though.

Seems like ICE should be involved given that he is most likely an illegal alien.
Green card
Gerhartsreiter got a green card in Wisconsin by marrying Amy Jersild on Feb. 20 1981. A green card gives lawful permanent residency.
But did he truthfully apply for the green card?
If he provided any false information when applying for the card, that may interest the FBI and ICE.
[Edited, after I looked up the information that green cards issued in 1981 have no expiration date and don't need to be renewed]

If they deport him, and then they find enough evidence to pin him to the Sohus vanishing/murder, Germany will never let him go back to California.
EU nations don't extradite suspects facing death penalty charges - I suspect that a certain wife/child murdering Brit miscalculated on that account with MA.

That said, permanent still means permanent. It's the card that expires, not the legal residency.
As to whether his marriage was fraudulent, gee, I dunno. It's for a judge to decide whether running off the day after and never being seen again constitutes a fraudulent marriage. Or whether failure to inform the immigration authorities of change in address is a problem. Or... Anyway, until a judge rules otherwise, he's not an illegal alien.
If you were putting odds on this happening... I'd say you'd want to bet he'll end up getting deported.

I thnk you're right. Whether she was in on the marriage scam or not, she won't stand up for him now. Federal authorities just want her testimony, they wouldn't prosecute her if she was in on the scam, and they can't if he scammed her.
He'll be in jail until trial, then tried for kidnapping, and assault, they'd love to try him for murder in San Marino, he willl also be litigating the divorce agreement - whether Mrs Boss can take their daughter to England, after that ICE will begin deportatation proceedings If either of his marriages had a valid license, he would have a claim to stay in the USA. Since the first was fraudulent and the second was not licensed, I think he's fucked.
Wife's Immigration Status
Even if they had a license for the second marriage, it would depend upon the wifey's immigration status for the US. She's a Brit, though she may have a Green Card or citizenship.

The news here is not so much the ID as the means by which it was determined. This is the first conclusive forensic identification to link each of the aliases to one another. It's one thing to say he's Gerhartsreider -- quite another to prove it.

I assume the couple owned the house and that Clark was a tenent in a guest house. If Clark had no reason to depart, he could have stayed around rent free, no? How did he end up with their truck and without the registration?

Clearly, as discussed previously, the court system is biased against MEN. Specifically those men who CHOOSE to assume fake identities, kill their landlords, bury the bodies, and travel around the country pretending to be rich and famous.

Here. What's interesting (well, to me) is how they were able to get a fingerprint from his immigration papers in the 1980s - seems he left at least one on one of the pieces of paper he handled and they were able to lift this "latent" print for comparison with a print on a wine glass he'd held in Boston.

It's quite possible that the visa forms required an actual fingerprint/thumbprint making it a lot more likely that they could get a clean match. I know it's part of the process in some form now.

Christian's (aka Clark) attorney Steve Hrones has said it is not illegal or necessarily nefarious to use an alias.
Hrones said something to the effect, that you can use any name you want and that his client used a new name in San Marino - Chichester - to fit in in Southern Califirnia and another new name - Crowe - to fit in on Wall Street. ...nothing to see here, move along.
The Suffolk County DA Conley begs to differ. He claims it is not always legal to use an alias, specifically when you are asked for your name by a law enforcement official. If you answer, you must answer truthfully or you risk being charged for a crime. Conley thinks Christian will be charged for this.
Consider this, we know that Clark did not use aliases only to "fit in" as his attorney stated, we also know he used aliases to avoid law enforcement, such as when he used a new name after kidnapping his daughter and taking her to Baltimore.
This method of operation demonstrates a deliberate effort to avoid law enforcement and begs the question, what was his purpose in using an alias when he moved to Greenwich? It just so happens that he left San Marino at the same time his San Marino landlords, a young couple, disappeared forever;the husband's remains were later found buried in the backyard.
Oddly, Christian (Clark) had the man's truck in Greenwich CT where he had moved and where he lived under a new alias. Did he use the alias, simply to "fit in" or was he using it to evade law enforcement?
He was wanted for questioning in the disappearance of the San Marino couple. When he tried to sell their truck in Greenwich without the registration, he could not, and police were alerted. He disappeared and turned up elsewhere living under a new name. Did he change his name to "fit in" or to evade law enforcement, again?
He left Greenwich promptly and could not be located. This guys disappears and changes his name at the same time people die, when he's avoiding law enforement for kidnapping, and when he's avoiding law enforcement who want to question him about his disappearing landlords. I think you get the picture.

Hrones thinks Christian has a case against Mrs Boss for moving out of the country with their daughter. I think the Mrs Boss will try to postpone litigation of the custodial agreement until after his criminal trials are over. It would be to her advantage.
Just simple misdirection
The attorney's statement is true, but irrelevant. It's not illegal to use an alias. It's also not illegal to use a shovel; it is illegal to use a shovel to bury someone's body. (Well, a zoning violation, at least..)
