Wheelchair rentals in Boston?
By adamg on Tue, 08/16/2005 - 8:51am
I got e-mail the other day from somebody who'll be visiting Boston from London next month: He wants to know if I have any recommendations for wheelchair rentals in our fair Hub. I found a couple of places via Google, natch, but since I've never used them, I can't say if they're good or bad. So: Anybody have any recommendations for short-term wheelchair rentals?

Wheelchair rental
If the person is staying in a hotel, they should check to see if the hotel has a wheelchair they can use during their stay.
I would also call the Visitors and Convention Bureau to see if they can recommend a supplier. This is th type of information they have to provide to every big group coming to the city.
Try Home Care Supply
If you google em you should be able to find them. They rent wheel chairs by the week and can deliver as well or you can pick up from them in Waltham.
scootaround?
scootaround.com advertises on a lot of the disability community forums I frequent. I haven't talked to anyone with firsthand experience with them though.
The medical supply place on Longwood Ave does short-term rentals, I know. I'll ask around and see what else I can find.
Another thought...
Try calling or e-mailing the Boston Center for Independent Living. I've used these guys as a resource personally as well as for clients, and I very much trust any recommendation they make.

Gary Drug, Beacon Hill
I rented one for the day from Gary Drug on Charles Street, Beacon Hill, a few years ago. It worked fine and was hassle free.
