Helping New Orleans evacuees on Cape Cod
By adamg on Mon, 09/12/2005 - 2:49pm
Otto's Angels is collecting warm clothes for Camp Edwards evacuees who probably aren't used to our, um, brisk falls and winters. They're also organizing fundraisers to buy clothing and needed supplies for New Orleans evacuees down south.

Subject: Katrina Fundraiser - spread word pls

Dear Friends:
I know each one of you has probably already given to Hurricane Relief efforts already but I wanted to let you all know about a fundraiser I am co-hosting at The Place this Thursday September 15th from 5pm until 10pm to benefit relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The Place is specifically helping Otto’s Angels Charitable Foundation to collect much needed goods here in New England (clothing, first aid supplies, toiletries, baby items, school supplies, etc) and ship them directly to the affected areas in Louisiana. The Otto’s Angels volunteers in Louisiana have attained a warehouse facility to hold the items shipped to them as well as determined a means to distribute the goods to those people most in need. The first 18 wheeler truck of supplies left for Louisiana last Saturday and the next one will be leaving within the week. Otto’s Angels needs money to pay for the trucks, fuel, and many other much needed necessities. This is where all of you come in.
The Place, which is located at 2 Broad St. Boston, has partnered with Otto’s Angels, as well as a number of local sports, media and political personalities, to throw a very much needed fundraiser this Thursday Sept 15th from 5pm until 10pm. 100% of all proceeds raised will go directly to Otto’s Angels. We are asking for a donation of $50 at the door for the fundraiser but will take whatever people can give. The details of the event are as follows:
- There will be an open bar for Coors, Tanqueray Gin, Cirac Vodka, and Jack Daniels products from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (provided by the respective liquor companies).
- Free food buffet from 6pm until 9pm
- A number of local sports, media, and political personalities will be in attendance including:
o Larry Izzo – Pro Bowl Linebacker for the New England Patriots
o Scott Zolak – Former QB for the New England Patriots and current Sports Broadcaster
o Max Lane – Former Offensive lineman from the New England Patriots
o Lyndon Byers – Former Boston Bruin and current WAAF personality
o Butch Stearns – Fox 25 Sports Anchor
o Scott Brown – Massachusetts State Senator
o In addition to these people, we also have a number of other sports celebrities that we have spoken to that have said they will try to make it including Ted Johnson, former New England Patriots Linebacker, and Joe Thornton, current Captain of the Boston Bruins.
- There will be a auction that will start at 8pm that will be MC by Lyndon Byers and Butch Stearns: the items to be auctioned will include:
o Trot Nixon signed away game jersey
o Keith Foulke signed game jersey
o Jim Rice signed baseball
o Curt Schilling signed baseball
o 3 other signed baseballs from members of the Red Sox
o Luis Tiant signed baseball
o Nomar Garciaparra singed baseball and bat
o Joe Thornton signed game jersey
o Tom Brady signed game jersey
o Adam Viniateri signed game jersey
o Two footballs signed by members of the World Champion New England Patriots
o Additional items to be auctioned off include one year healthclub memberships, gift certificates to local restaurants, and tickets to upcoming sporting events.
This is a rare opportunity to give directly to the affected people and to meet the organizers of Otto’s Angels. Please come by Thursday, have a great time, buy one of the many wonderful auction items we have and, most importantly, help out a great organization fighting for a great cause.
Please spread the word on this event and I hope to see you all tomorrow!
Thanks.
Thank you,
Stephanie
