Bob Nelson reports that WROR beat WODS this morning for the title of "First Boston Station to Start Playing Christmas Music Way Too Early." They must be so proud.
Thank you. I pop over there to take a look whenever I see that I've received a number of hits from there. Your posting generated a ton, and I appreciate it.
Each year they start this Christmas music earlier and earlier. Last year it was Veteran's day. Now election day. Why don't they just play it all year long. Too bad because I won't listen to either station again until January.
I hope the DJ's (many of whom I like) feel like idiots playing this stuff now. When I tune into Oldies that what I want to hear, not "Holly Jolly Freakin' Christmas" like I heard at 7:30 this morning. It is so obvious that it's all about the money and has nothing to do with actually trying to make listeners happy.
Send them letters, make calls, drop a few e-mails, make your displeasure known. Specifically state that you are a faithful listener, during normal programming, but that you will not listen to the station at all until AT LEAST after Thanksgiving, if they continue with this crap, and you may possibly never return.
If nothing else, you'll feel better for letting off the steam. Best case, they listen and reverse their policy.
But whatever you do, for God's sake, don't go to 'ROR's main page. Even without the falling snow and dancing Santas the page is enough to permanently burn your retinas.
Send the e-mail or what-have-you. You'll at least get a spiffy form reply back!

"Thanks for the email, we figured we'd help everybody get their Christmas shopping started early. We'll still have all of the fun stuff you tune in for in the mornings, Men from Maine, Wallyologies and Townie Tunes. If you still want to listen to the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s, you can do so on an HD Radio or by going to this link: http://www.wrornothinbutthe70s.com/
Thanks for listening..."

But, go to Oldies1033.com to hear 60s-70s!

To be fair, the one from Jones may not be boilerplate.
So, you can go to the websites to hear the stuff they built their audiences upon. It makes little sense to me that they don't have it the other way around, but I'm not a programming director. I actually think about stuff.
I just love this time of year. I love hearing holiday songs in November. It puts me in a cheerful mood and all the better for getting Christmas shopping done early! Also great is Pandora, where you can enter one holiday song and get a nice random streaming assortment all day long.
I have no argument with anyone who likes their Christmas music a bit earlier than I do. My problem is with the folks who are trying to pry open our wallets to the exclusion of non-cash-cow holidays such as Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.
However, enjoy the music! But please remember that not everybody is as thrilled. As a matter of fact, there was a survey done, on this very site, that showed something like 95% of us were NOT thrilled. If we vent a bit, please bear with us.
LOL be careful about using this site as evidence of the culure at large, I think the majority of the people here have a vastly different viewpoint then the people out there! That being said my vote is get rid of the xmas music!
The good news is its only isolated on some stations. What I never got is how quickly christmas ends as soon as people get what they want. Everything is on clearence the next day and the xmas music ENDS BAM. I really get in the spirit the weekend before xmas and feel that way through the week until christmas day, then still feel it the next day and sometimes the day after that. Im actually dissapointed when I turn the all xmas all the time stations on and find they went back to normal programming at like midnight on christmas. So I can get it now, 2 months in advance but not the next day...
I'm okay being a cultural anomaly. And since money is super tight this year, I'll just be window shopping and listening at home crocheting snowflakes and such. My fingers are already itching to put up the tree! And if anyone has any hints on how to stop a toddler from tearing down said tree, I am all ears.
When I was a kid we had pets that would tear down the tree so my father used fishing line up at the top of the tree and basicly anchored it to the walls (assuming you have it cornered in a wall.) The line was high enough that none of us would get caught up in it, and it seemed to do a good job of keeping the tree up even after a few aggresive yanks.

Where To Send Those Cards And Letters
For WODS:
[email protected]
He is the programming director.
For WROR
http://www.wror.com/
Go there, and look down the page for "Got a Christmas request?"
I clicked onto it, and sent them a request to stop playing freakin' Christmas music so early in the year.

Thats kind of funny
Thats kind of funny actually, sending a request through the christmas song request form requesting they stop playing christmas music lol.
I oftentimes wonder how many times a year these companies check the request form email...

re: I just love
That's an excellent point, Sarah.
Thanksgiving music does not make people go on spending sprees because they think they have to buy gifts for everyone.
Christmas music does make people think about christmas and all the spending they should be doing, just because!
So I would wager our corporate friends are playing christmas music to make you get in the "holiday spirit" - of buying.
$$$$$ it's all you need
Not A Problem, Sarah
