Roslindale to get Indian, Nepali food

And so Roslindale's dining transformation will be complete. Adam Rosi-Kessel reports Himalayan Bistro of West Roxbury will be opening a second location in the Washington Street space now occupied by NuVo. No more long, wearying trips all the way up to Centre Street for momos!

Also: Emack and Bolio's is now owned by the owner of the Blue Star, who will be renaming it Select Cafe. If they know what's good for them, they will keep the frappes and couches - they don't want to face the wrath of the kidlet, who loves sipping a frappe while all comfy on one of the couches.

...or a bad one that my favorite Boston restaurant is opening a branch so close. As long as we had to go all the way to West Roxbury to eat there, we could resist the temptation (and spare our finances). (Families of five get expensive -- at almost any restaurant).

I was over at the West Roxbury location last week, and they seemed to be on the fence about whether to open in Roslindale. It seems like they (reasonably) fear that they'll be competing with themselves. On the other hand, if they had a location in Roslindale, I think a lot of people who occasionally make the trek to West Roxbury would go more often. I'd encourage all interested Roslindale folks to mention how much they'd like an additional location next time they're at the restaurant.

and this will switch it into the "walking distance" column, across from the shiny new Dunk's. Progress!

I do not concur with the negativity re: Blue Star, though. They are reliable, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree wrt Blue Star. I have lunch there about once or twice a month (usually with my eight-year old daughter during shopping trips) and it's always a positive experience. The food comes quickly, the service is attentive (and doesn't mind children), the bathroom is clean, and the prices are fair. It's a dependable, friendly, neighborhood spot. Hopefully they'll maintain that same vibe with the Roslindale Cafe.
