No more Opie and Anthony on WBCN

Jessica Heslam gets the scoop, although station spokesman Cha-Chi Loprete wouldn't say why (and yes, the only reason I'm mentioning his non-statement is because Cha-Chi Loprete is the greatest 'BCN name since Duane Ingalls Glasscock).

I never liked Opie and Anthony so Im not upset over this. It looks like their Boston syndication deal died in a car crash.

Im sure they arent too concerned either as this is a drop in the bucket for them at this point. That is unless this is like the canary in the mine, keep in mind that they first made it big in Boston so there should be no shortage of fans around here for their show... no?

Considering O&A have bounced around the radio dial for a couple of years, I would think any dedicated fans would've been listening to their XM satellite feed (tho I guess it's Sirius now) instead of whichever syndicated station has picked up the show this month.

It sounds like BCN is dropping the show due to "cutbacks", and I am willing to bet O&A isn't exactly asking cheap rates for their syndication package, so...

I turned the show on this morning (T and R)for a few minutes and almost fell asleep. They were talking about how they were going to go to some party after work and who was going to carpool with who and this one doesnt feel comfortable driving after evena drink or two, and that one doesnt want to pick him up because its out of his way, and someone seriously brought up the ecological impact of which is better, carpooling which means extra mileage to pick people up versus everyone driving themselves. All this without jokes, satire, yelling , and was even devoid of fart noises. Yeah I spent five minutes listening to these guys plan their carpool route... great start fellas.

And to think you could've gotten all this from certain podcasts. With fewer "radio voices", even.

T & R have been on BCN for over two years, it's actaully a very entertaining program.

It is too bad they dropped Opie and Anthony as I listened to them in the morning and had T & R for the drive home. That's a shame.

You might just being sarcastic, but if you've been listening to WBCN at all, you know they've been on the air.

oh I know they have been on the air and Ive heard them before, but thats the conversation they were having when I tuned in their first morning on the air after the switch. I dont want to hear about how your going to get to your event after work and who is going to pick who up, thats very annoying.

Fantastic news. Moving the T and R idiots to the morning is also a great side effect. I listen to a ROCK radio station for MUSIC not to hear some idiots being idiots.

Maybe Ill start going back to WBCN. I jumped to WAAF when they got better reception in the city, and 92.9s slow increase in commercials is getting to me.

the News Dissector. Back in the day, people listened to 'BCN not just for the music, but also for the political viewpoint that went with that music.

When I used to listen to that station, the excerpt of Tangerine Dream's Force Majeure that was used to intro their "news" was my signal to switch to WCOZ.

The station was never the same for me after Maxanne (Maxanne Sartori) left. She is the one person responsible, for better or worse, for shaping my musical tastes.

She left in 1977, I think, so that gives you some idea of how much I've progressed during the intervening years.

More music in the PM means I might actually hit the BCN button on my radio on the drive home. To be honest, I don't think I could tell the difference between the O&A show and the T&R show in the morning. O&A making priapism jokes from NYC with their wacky sidekicks is no more or less entertaining than T&R making priapism jokes from Boston with their different wacky sidekicks.

I've been listening since AAF days and find they can be annoying at times, but I liked the addition of Jim Norton and other comedian guests. They had a few local comedians too; Bill Burr, Bob Kelly, Louis CK. I will miss hearing the comedians guests most.
See you in Feb. at the Wilbur Bill Burr

Whether you like them or not (and I do/did- they have a more sophisticated sense of humor than you might guess, and as someone else pointed out, having very good comedians on regularly adds a lot)...

I bet BCN has just ceded a large part of its non-satellite-owning morning audience to NPR, WEEI, and any other live act in the morning that people can stand. If I want to hear Soundgarden, I have an iPod.

I used to listen to WBCN for music too: Beethoven's Violin Concerto played from start to finish; chamber music of Mozart and Schubert at any time of the day or night; twentieth-century music by the likes of Bartok, Stravinsky, Copland, William Schuman (not to be confused with Robert Schumann), Hindemith, Hanson (the man from Wahoo, NE, not the Boy Band), etc. Nothing like that on the commercial dial anymore.

stand for Boston Concert Network, a reminder of the station's original classical format.

When "BCN" stood for "Boston Concert Network," just like WHCN in Hartford and WNCN in New York.

WBCN wasn't broadcasting the "Best of" shows during O&A's vacations. My guess is that not broadcasting 'best of' goes against contract and allows O&A to drop WBCN from their list of affiliates.

Sorry to disagree with some of you, but I truly miss O&A in the morning. They had topics ranging from politics to the latest idiot in the news,...things you might see on CNN, then others you'd see on FAILBLOG. Slide-whistle one minute, and talking on the phone to the mayor of NYC. Im quite familiar with T&R too...i'd listen to them on and off in the afternoon, and hearing them in the morning with the same garbage.."Adolfo, youre fat"...."i like being drunk",..."lets smell each other's farts",...never anything new...and honestly, i find myself switching to AAF to Hillman (who i am NOT a fan of, as i feel i should have a mullet, acidwashed jeans on and a "styper" t-shirt with a pack of Marlboro's folded up in the sleeve) but at least its entertaining. T&R...NAHT FUNNNEH!
