He seems very angry at the world. I dont know anyone involved in this scandal but I do question his calling of bullshit on people conencted with 9/11. He seems to be saying too many people have known people who were in the buildings, or who were in the buildings and survived ect.

The Boston Phoenix is in Boston, which is very close to NYC and the planes started off in Boston. Many people who would go to those buildings, or work there are very socially connected people who would know lots of different people all over the place, and most likely know people from Boston which is less then a few hours away and is most likely where they went to school. It was also a huge building with thousands of workers and thousands of visitors and who knows how many people were in the immediate area as well. The writer fails to think that maybe, just maybe some of these stories were about the SAME person... Maybe my friend has hundreds of other people in Boston that he knows, and they are all telling the same story. Takes those hundreds and add on their friends and aquaintences. One persons story could easily reach thousands of people via "A friend of a friend was supposed to go into the tower." Multiply that by all the people in the tower and make sure you take into account the Boston=NYC connections and you can very quickly figure out why it seems like so many people knew someone or knew someone who died/was saved/was supposed to go to the buildings, its because most of us do have those immediate connections. I know 3 people who were supposed to be in the buildings that day later on, 5 people through a friend who were in the area, 2 people through a friend who died in the planes etc. I believe most of them, and also know that there are hundreds of people who "know" these same people, which distorts the numbers and makes it seem like there are more claims then there really are.

the "ripple" effect from 9/11 is and was there. There are people who know people who know people, etc., who were either in the WTC Towers when they collapsed and lost their lives, etc. It is a rather bizarre cycle.

A large percentage of the money Bernie swindled came from South Florida.
A large portion of the money in South Florida comes as flight capital from South America.
A large portion of THAT money is connected with the drug trade, through money laundering.
Ergo, the odds of at least SOME of that $50 billion belonging to a cartel are virtually 100%.
These guys are not known for their sense of humor. I'm guessing that right now, the U. S. Government is the least of Mr. Madoff's problems....

Madoff seems to have done quite well swindling his fellow Jews without having to risk anything to do with drug cartels.

I agree, he has bigger concerns then a drug cartel. When you piss of an entire group of people, regardless of nationality, you have some serious issues to deal with. There is no running because you no longer have that support system because they are all mad at you. People who have lost their money also become irrational as well. The fact that his own sons turned him in suggests that life is gonna suck regardless of how much jail time he serves.

the members of Pine Brook don't send pieces of your children to you by UPS. Spend some time in So. Florida. If a Cayman Islands "family corporation" decides to invest in a hedge fund, they are in. As long as no one hears any Arabic on a possible NSA bug, home free. (John Kerry didn't even realize who was running Centrust Bank while they supported him.) I stand by my statement. Nobody moves $50 billion in investments through NYC and Miami without at least some of it being dirty."Bigger concerns than a drug cartel"? You may want to avoid Tijuana on your next San Diego vacation.

I think he has a bigger risk of being knocked off by some old Jewish guy who lost the family fortune at some event then by a drug cartel.

It was in poor taste.

Worse, it wasn't funny.
