Protests worked: Steve LeVeille to return to WBZ

A little bird chirps in our ear that management just let staff know that LeVeille is returning. The station had dropped the overnight host earlier this month to save money, but apparently decided it couldn't argue with the hundreds of people who barraged station management with letters and e-mail.

the press release you linked to says Lovell Dyett will be on from 4:30 to 5 am on Sunday mornings! Who's going to be listening???

This gives new meaning to the term "Sunday morning public-affairs ghetto".

Bring him back to where he belongs -- Saturday night or Sunday night.

This has made my day! I had terrible insomnia last night but couldn't even bear to listen to that syndicated guy. Can't wait for Steve to return and make my sleepless nights bearable!

Could it be that they received a ratings book and saw an immediate drop since letting go of him, and decided based on numbers rather than the protests? Either way, it comes out the same, but I rather suspect they're a bit more pragmatic than romantic. Anyone more in the biz than I am these days have the latest book, or know when it came out?

I mean, they went through the exact same thing with David Brudnoy and his fans back in 1990. Cancelled the show, replaced it with something syndicated, fans raised a ruckus, the station retreated and put him back on the air.

I think there was a whole new set of management weasels involved in the 2009 cancellation, probably ones who weren't even in Boston in the early 1990s.

Just talked to a friend of mine, former jock at 'ZLX, and he confirmed something for me. Arbitron doesn't keep a specific book for midnight - 6am. So, it appears that public opinion - via letters, calls, etc. - was probably the sole turning point.

Nice.

At midnight, i.e., turn your radio on at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

Steve LeVeille and Lovell Dyett to return to WBZ:

... Casey says "we always knew that the radio audience in New England and beyond has held WBZ to a higher standard than any other radio station and the local overnight programming was a part of that. WBZ is just a very different radio station than any other. We're happy to bring back Steve to his overnight midnight to 5 a.m. time slot." ...
