Sex changes at the Registry just became easier

The Herald reports transgendered people no longer have to provide a detailed letter from their doctor if they want to change the designated sex on their Massachusetts driver's licenses:
Under the new policy, a gender marker can be changed by the applicant submitting an updated application and a gender designation change form. The form attests to the gender that the applicant identifies himself or herself to be. That form must be signed by the applicant and a medical provider.

What is wrong with people?
The article on the Herald website has dozens of reader comments that are nothing but trans-bashing. It never ceases to horrify me that there are actually people out there who think that transgender individuals shouldn't be able to have an ID so that they can rent an apartment or take a job without having to divulge sensitive personal information -- just like I or any other non-trans person is able to do.
Also, people are freakin ignorant. Transfolks have been able to change the gender on the ID card in the past with a letter stating they'd had genital surgery, so it isn't like it's a new thing for transpeople to be able to change gender on the ID. But many trans people don't desire genital surgery, and most people don't have thousands of dollars for it even if they did want it.
Oh, while I'm ranting about how much transphobia pisses me off, why should changing the gender on one's ID require a doctor's signature at all? I don't need to undergo a psych eval in order to get a fugly nosejob, or giant boob implants, or to gain or lose 100 pounds, or any number of other things that have huge impact on my physical appearance and my social perception.
why don't you post this over
why don't you post this over where the ignorant trans-bashers can see it?
