Do it, and lets get Obama to
Do it, and lets get Obama to get on this too.
If it gets rid of the tolls
If it gets rid of the tolls then I am all for it. These taxes unfairly target commuters, and as someone who doesn't even own a car and lives in downtown Boston I think that is unfair.
We live in a Commonwealth (this means working for the common good) and investing in our collective transportation infrastructure is something we all benefit from and too often take for granted. A gas tax is the only equitable way of seeing that we all pay fairly as you are taxed for exactly how much you use the very infrastructure you're paying to support.
If you don't like it, I suggest voting for politicians who oppose this philosophy or a move to one of the Red States that generously rely on hand outs from the Federal Government instead of properly taxing their own citizens (Google: Red State Welfare).
You know what will happen, though?
The gas tax will be implemented (it should if they can use the cash to get better MBTA service), and then they won't eliminate the tolls. In other words, bait and switch.
