Two men to get fourth trial in Dorchester murder case

Quincy Butler and William Wood, both facing first-degree murder charges for the 2004 throat-slashing death of a Dorchester woman, will get a fourth trial following yet another mistrial declaration, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office vowed.

Judge Patrick Brady, who also presided over the pair's first two trials in the case, declared the Suffolk Superior Court jury deadlocked, 10-2 in favor of conviction, after five days of deliberations.

The two are accused of slashing Betsy Tripp's throat on Feb. 13, 2004 and shooting her boyfriend in the face when he tried to stop the carnage. He survived, but lost one of his eyes.

Last year, their first trial ended with another hung hury - 11-1 for conviction. They got a third trial when Brady fell ill during the second trial.

"We're ready to go to trial again at the next available date," DA Dan Conley said. "We will not be deterred from holding each of these men accountable for their actions."

Innocent, etc.
