Bucolic West Roxbury once again under brutal reign of Fruits and Veggies?
After a spate of articles this past spring about the Fruits and Veggies Gang (good Westie lads who decided to have a bit of fun by beating up kids they didn't like after their jobs in the local produce departments), things seemed to quiet down. But the past few weeks, the police-blotter in the Roslindale and West Roxbury Transcript always seems to have had at least one item about somebody getting threatened or beaten up by a bunch of young men.
Last week, it was:
An employee of the Walgreens drug store at 1991 Centre St., told police that a group of 10 teens wanted to fight his son and "finish" him. ...
And today? The paper reports:
A 34-year-old West Roxbury man told police that as he was driving through the commuter rail lot on Elgin Street, his driver's-side tires suddenly blew out, flattening the tires and throwing off his hubcaps. As he went back to retrieve the hubcaps, he was attacked by three teenage males who punched and kicked him on his head and body and then fled on the train tracks toward Catholic Memorial ...

Thanks!
Maybe they still have separate editions for West Roxbury and Roslindale? I'm looking at the dead-trees version of the Rozzie paper and there's nothing on the front page at all. The whole thing would actually be kind of funny (West Roxbury? Gangs?) if a) these jerks weren't actually beating up people - in some cases, enough to require hospitalization and b) some of them weren't (allegedly) the sons of local police officers. I can only hope somebody stops them before they finally go too far and actually kill somebody. But it's been several months now since the news first bubbled up and it's kind of amazing people are still getting attacked.
Gangs of West Roxbury
I read with interest in the West Roxbury Transcript the escapades of the notorious "Fruits & Veggies" Gang. I can attest to the brutality of these types of gangs. I was in the "Purple Gang" that hung out at Mike's Diner at the "End of the Line" (WR/Dedham) Forest Hills line "T" stop. We were pretty bad dudes. Then it was Tony's Pizza on Baker Street. It got worse. More to come....
