Im sad for you jazz lovers, but Im happy about this. I like WFNX and do not like jazz. I will be able to listen to them in the morning again.

...and just play music with Hank Santoro reading the news every 30 minutes.

I dunno, of all the chatting heads on the radio they are the ones I am most likely to listen to (male in the 16-35 demographic here) although I would prefer that ALL radio stations talk LESS in the morning and play more music. I have an IPOD car dock, but I do like the random nature of radio over my play list, and if you only listen to your IPOD how do you hear new songs?

I am with you. I started listening to FNX the day they came on the air, but these current morning guys who giggle constantly at each other's stupid unfunny jokes are an insult to my intelligence. Now I listen to books on tape. Guess I was not their demographic anymore.

The idiots on the "Sandbox" (a radio show that needs a name is a clue that it is going to be chock full of vacuousness) ruined FNX for me. Now I listen to books on tape or NPR. I guess I am no longer their desired demographic - which is 13 year old boys, apparently.

I stopped listening to WFNX when Leftover Lunch starting playing grunge. That's right around the time I tuned out commercial radio forever in favor of all college radio, not that I wasn't also listening to college radio beforehand. It was not long after I had moved to Boston and was searching for a WDRE (Long Island) replacement (now WLIR or something).

Younger kids aren't tuning into radio much, so it probably isn't even wise to make the attempt. As a 30-something, I'm one of the last to remember when radio actually mattered and have fond memories of it. But, they're just not doing anything on commercial radio that makes me want to listen habitually, and it's habitual listeners they need. So for now, it's commercial radio for traffic and college radio for music and culture.

For profit radio keeps making one bad decision after another. It all started when consultants were brought in years ago and DJ's were made to be either immature characters or automatons.

Unless they're planning to go off the air entirely during the time this show now airs, I don't understand.

Joel Brown reports on the end of Jazz Gallery on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and its replacement with Jazz with Bob Parlocha, which already airs on weeknights.
