Krispy Kreme in full retreat

Not so Krispy anymoreSpatch notes the sudden passing of Krispy Kreme outlets in Saugus and Medford, following the similar dismantlement of the Krispy Kreme in Copley Square:

... When they arrived on the Boston scene, I was happy, but then realized exactly why it was a good Occasional Treat and not a Regular Thing: them donuts is fat. Eat a half dozen in one sitting and you'll groan about it for days. (Ok, maybe you shouldn't eat a half dozen of anybody's donuts in one sitting, but in my defense, I was drunk.) When I first saw the headline on Boston.com, I thought it was going to be the Dedham one located on Rt. 1. There was a big rush for it when it opened a year or two ago but since that wore off I've never seen more than 2 or 3 cars in the parking lot.

Adam, any chance you can swing by the Dedham store and tell us whether it has also closed?

Dedham is still open; Channel 5 just did a story on the other stores closing.

Unlike DD's donuts, which are quite enjoyable at room-temperature, KK's must be eaten straight out of the oven, otherwise they taste like sugar-covered cardboard.

Krispey Kremes were doing great out west and right when the diet craze happened, they moved east. Most donuts like dunkie's made it through and started making non-donut food. Whereas Krispy Kremes are the fattest, sugariest donuts around. They also could only make donuts. There might be some Krispy Kreme coffee, but dunkin donuts is a lot more famous for and other things. I knew Krispy Kremes couldn't make it.

They've closed in Medford and Saugus, but they are still pressing ahead to open one in Woburn:
