This scam has actually been going for at least a year -- they tried to rent out Kitty O'Shea's to a friend of mine last summer. We had a good laugh when we looked it up on Google street view.
That doesn't necessarily follow from the story. Could well be that the con artist is using the good name of move.com to his advantage. My guess is that he has nothing to do with that website, nor would the bank account to which funds are wired have any connection.

They don't necessarily know the business conventions here, and they might have charmingly naive ideas about human decency.

How can people not know this is a scam?? I can't understand how they are getting suckered into this.

That would send a red flag....
I didn't realize that Move.com was a fraudulent website
