According to the March 14 edition of The Boston Courant, which I picked up at Jersey Street Liquors, the Rolling Stones will play two shows at Fenway this August. The paper doesn't have a website, so here's the text of the artcle.

Stones Slated for Local Concerts

The Boston Red Sox may soon get the satisfaction of bringing The Rolling Stones to Fenway Park for two concerts this August which will kick off the band's world tour.

The ball club has applied to the Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing for musical permits for Fenway Park on Sunday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 23. Both shows would occur between 5 to 11 pm. A public hearing on the matter will be held March 30 at City Hall at 12 pm.

Reliable sources told The Boston Courant that the Stones will stop at Fenway for two shows which will bring more than 72,000 people to the ballpark for the venue's third concert in as many years. In 2003 Bruce Springsteen served as the ballpark's opening act as a concert stage. Jimmy Buffett brought Margaritaville last September.

Red Sox officials did not return phone calls requesting comment about this year's concerts, which, unlike previous ones, will both fall on work nights and last later into the evening.

Community leaders, who have not been informed of this year's musical act, expressed concerns that concerts at Fenway Park may turn into a beast of burden for a neighborhood already contending with 81 home baseball games.

According to Fenway Civic Association President Bill Richardson, residents realized that they were moving in near a ballpark but did not know they would also be living close to a concert arena.

"The additonal dates and the peoblems with having a large crowd show up . . . are changing the dynamic," said Richardson. "It seems to be expanding the encroachment."

Residents cite noise as a key concert concern. After reports following the Springsteen concert that music had been heard as far away as Jamaica Plain, the Red Sox worked with the Buffett engineers to try to reduce noise.

"It went fairly well [last year] but it was still loud," said Ed Burke, a Fenway resident and member of the West Fenway Business Association. "If they're going to do it on a yearly basis, they need to make an investment in a sound system."

I'm a big music fan, so I am thrilled at this news. Last year we had a BBQ during the Buffett concert and had a blast.
