No more news at 10; details at 11

We go to Steadfast Correspondent for this live report:

... Although nothing has been confirmed, I am hearing that Sept. 8 will be the last broadcast of "The Ten O'Clock News" on WLVI-TV 56.

Once the only 10 p.m. newscast in Boston, the station's ratings have tanked over the past few years as Fox 25 News at 10 has blown them out of the water.

WVLI reportedly lost $750K last year on their news division. ...

Or maybe this is all wrong.

See, where I'm from (the Corn Belt), the evening news IS at 10. WGN out of Chicago, channel 9 for at least most of Illinois, even did a 9 o'clock news, I assume due to their channel number.

By 11, the farmers are abed, and the slackers are watching M*A*S*H* reruns.

With today's technology, there's absolutely no reason to keep scheduling TV this way. But it has become culturally entrenched.
