Turkeys on the march: Gobbler struts downtown

Around 6:45 p.m, Alison Thompson reported a wild turkey making its way down Hawley Street downtown, right off Milk Street, just two blocks from Macy's.

About ten minutes later, AlertNewEngland and Liz O'Donnell reported the turkey made an appearance at South Station - where four BPD and Transit cops tried without success to corral the bird, which responded by flying away from them.

Is anyone concerned that Boston might seriously become over-run by turkeys? It's really starting to sound like a possibility. Could become a post-apocalyptic, very "12 Monkeys" kinda scene.

They aren't nearly as noxious or dangerous as the overpopulation of geese in the area, and maybe they'll out compete a few massholes for resources.

. . . cool. Have a bunch of pictures of my sightings of them- did some reading on them as well. I had no idea they could fly. They fly low and fast for sort stretches. And I didn't know they nest in trees sometimes. I thought they just sorta huddled down in a bush at night. They are really fascinating. Proud birds- and brave.
