6:30-8:30 Training and Q&A

Public Speaking
Introductory public speaking training focuses on building the basic technical skills necessary to clearly transmit information from the speaker to an audience. Specific skills include word choice, eye contact, volume, vocalized pauses, and body language. Using a small-group format for practical training followed by a discussion debrief from each exercise, the training is designed to allow all participants the opportunity to practice their speaking in an environment that is supportive, attentive, and can provide useful feedback.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER
Dave Rini is a social justice speaker and advocate who works with a variety of Boston organizations fighting for equality. He is an award-winning rape prevention speaker for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, and an organizer with the Boston chapter of the National Organization of Men Against Sexism, where he hosted two "Dating While Feminist" events and several pro-feminist men's discussion groups. Dave has worked for four years with the Boston University Office of Orientation to design and execute its public speaking training for summer staff, training over 400 of them, and also used his public speaking curriculum with BU's Schools of Education and Communication. Dave is currently a law student at Northeastern University and co-chair of the school's ACLU and National Lawyer's Guild chapters.
