The seal was resting
By adamg on Mon, 07/02/2012 - 9:41am
Patty Neal went to the Aquarium yesterday and spotted a seal that appeared to be pining for the fjords:
One of the harbor seals at the NE Aquarium was laying at the bottom of the tank not moving. I don't think he was asleep.
This morning, the Aquarium replied that the seal really was resting:
In molting season the seals slow down and can even grow algae.

Norwegian Blue Seals
Molting season, eh? I'll have to use that one.
Son, get me a beer. I'm working on my moss.
I've seen that
I was looking at the harbor seals after dark a few years back, and saw one that was doing the same thing. We left because we thought he was dead and it was creepy.
Been there. Saw that.
Been there. Saw that. UGH.
Those seals are all neurotic from being in a tiny, cramped tank and always on display. They deserve to be retired to a sanctuary.
The seals actually do just
The seals actually do just like to sleep on the bottom of the tank sometimes, and can stay under for about a half an hour.
Question - If this person really thought the seal was dead or dying, why not tell someone at the aquarium instead of just tweeting about it? Come on, people...
The seals are outside the aquarium
The seals are before the ticket booths, so you can see the seals 24-7. Perhaps there was no one around to tell?
Yes, I've been there. You can
Yes, I've been there. You can enter the aquarium before they collect your ticket and tell someone at information. You can also tell one of the people who sell tickets. You can tell someone who works in the gift shop that's open to the public. There are plenty of employees around there, at all times.
Ice Cream Season
The seal was merely resting up before the Sealtest.
