More than 2,200 people have already signed the online petition - which is roughly 2,050 more people than have signed a petition by local bloggers Martin Solomon and Miss Kelly to support immigration officials who arrested a couple of local imams in connection with a national visa-fraud scheme.

Denton, meanwhile, says it might finally be time to say good-bye to Manny.

Sigh....it's not easy
Sigh....it's not easy getting Boston folks excited about Islamic fundamentalist in our midst! We're too busy ignoring it, singing kumbaya at interfaith rallies, or giving away city BRA property. Sports petitions will win over political ones every time in the Hub.
Nonetheless, Sol and I keep plugging away, and we hope that your readers will sign our petition and narrow the gap!
On a personal note, I think that people who come here illegally via convicted felons (who openly supported Osama bin Laden) should get deported, along with their extended families that they brought over to Massachusetts too.
Have you considered the possibility...
... that many of us won't sign your petition because we actually don't like the idea of harassing immigrants? Some of us have ancestors who got into the US with forged passports or by other less-than-legal means.
How are immigrants harming you?
Hmm?

some skanky folks have come here on the religious visa program
I consider that Omar Abdul Rahman, the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing, has harmed me. He was here on a religous visa. As were a group of three men in northern California who operated a terrorist training camp in Pakistan. As did Muhammed Khalil, who brought over 200 people here illegally, making himself some $500,000. As did four Palestinian men who ran Muslim “charities†that financed terrorist organization Hamas. They are harming us.
The two imam came here via Muhammed Khalil, who's now in jail (has been since 2004). The two imams were picked up as a follow-up to what happened to the 200 people Khalil illegally brought here, where did they go? The feds are doing there job. It's their job to arrest people who come here illegally. They're not harrassing illegal immigrants for kicks.
People being "skanky" harms you?
Again, how does the presence of immigrants harm you? You made a (really weak) case for the WTC events having harmed you, but then you start spouting off about how people's presence in this country is harming you.
I'm also going to assume, since you insist you're focused on people who've harmed you personally, that you go out of your way to be supportive of Arab-Americans and/or Muslim-Americans who have done nothing to you? I trust that, since the majority of these folks aren't part of your issue, that you actively fight for their civil rights, donate money to their causes, and spend your time educating yourself about their culture? I trust that you regularly invite legal Muslim and/or Arab immigrants to your home to socialize and share your cultures with one another? It would only make sense, given that you're focused only on Muslim/Arab folks who'd harmed you personally, that you'd want to work together with peace-loving Muslim/Arab folks in order to better understand their culture and how you can work to fight crime and corruption within their culture.
Why not spend your time and money on some of the actual problems in our communities that are easy to prove and to see every day? Once everyone in my community has food and clothing and healthcare and civil rights, then I might start becoming interested in how organizations that have nothing to do with me or my country are spending their money or what involvement they have with other organizations.
Or, you know, I might not.

immigrants harming who?
Let me rephrase that then, some people have come here under the religious visa program who have either conducted or planned harmful things to our country. It's my country, and I do take it personally when it is threatened. The first World Trade Center attack (and subsequent attacks) was an attack on all Americans.
The people who were picked up two weeks ago across the country- including our two local imams - were all Pakistani Muslims. We are discussing a specific case here, and what it is is what it is. I have to talk about Pakistani Muslims here, there's no way around it. We're not discussing the universe of visa fraud cases.
We will see when the trial is underway if the people that the ICE officers picked up really were a threat to our country.
I spend my time and money on a variety of causes and programs, thanks for asking!
a big 'so what' to me
Some people come here on visa specifying they were supposed to do Job A. They find that Job A doesn't pay enough to sustain them here, so they leave it and take Job B, C, or D that isn't covered by the visa. This may be some kind of technical violation of immigration law, but its impact on my life is zero, which is also the amount of attention it deserves from me.
these aren't just "some people"....
... they are the brother and brother-in-law of a notorious Pakistani terrorist leader, Hafiz Saeed. And Saeed's other brother is the imam at the Worcester mosque. Kind of like a Muslim mafia in Massachusetts.
http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1068345
"LAHORE: The Pakistani authorities have confirmed the American findings that the imams of three mosques arrested on November 15 in Boston happen to be the close relatives of the founder of the deadly Lashkar-e-Toiba, Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, who now heads the Jamaatul Daawa."
"Pakistani interior ministry sources said that the three Boston-based imams — Hafiz Muhammad Hannan Hafiz Muhammad Masood and Hafiz Mohammad Hamid — are close relatives of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed."
"The sources said they have informed the American authorities that while Hafiz Muhammad Masood and Hafiz Hamid happen to be the real brother of Saeed, Hafiz Muhammad Hannan is his brother-in-law."
"Hafiz Masood is an imam at the Islamic Centre of New England, Sharon, Massachusetts, Hannan is an imam at the Islamic Society of Greater Lowell, Massachusetts while Hamid is an imam at the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester, Massachusetts."
"Both Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jamaatul Daawa are generally considered to be pro-Osama and an anti-US groups which have been banned by the US State Department in 2002 and 2006 respectively."
Sorry, guys, these are not nice, harmless people. I know a number of Muslims from the Sharon mosque who are delighted and relieved that these guys have been found out.
My, aren't we
My, aren't we self-righteous?
I don't sign petitions which don't let me see who the signatories are.
I don't sign petitions from people with condescending attitudes, who act as if they are the only ones who know what is going on and the rest of us are just big dummies holding interfaith rallies.
I don't sign petitions created by people like Solomon, who apparently believes that any support for Palestinians is Jew-hating.
So really the vast antipathy you are experiencing may be the product of rational adults looking at you and your cause and preferring not to be associated with people like you.
