Why does Brian McGrory insist on covering sports?

I found it extremely ironic that Brian McGrory, the man who has played the class card many times before (including earlier in the article when he whines that Belichick "thinks he's above everyone else"), later goes on to belittle an entire region of people. If Mitt Romney or someone else wealthier than he had taken a shot at Appalachia, McGrory would be up in arms at the intolerance.
