Boston Commuters - Get Your Passports at South Station on January 23rd!

Boston commuters can apply for or renew their passports on site at South Station between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on January 23, or pick up the necessary forms.

Beginning Tuesday, January 23, all Americans will need passports to re-enter the U.S. by plane when traveling from most Caribbean countries, Canada and Mexico. To encourage Bostonians to get their passports, the Jamaica Tourist Board is hosting a “Jamaica Morning Coffee Break” from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on site at South Station Train Terminal on Tuesday, January 23.

The U.S. Postal Service will process applications and take passport photos. Only cash and checks will be accepted to process applications on site. Complimentary packages of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee will be offered, as well as information on travel to Jamaica and new passport requirements.

Commuters will need to have all necessary documents if they want to apply at the event. Proof of U.S. citizenship, and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license must be provided as well as two checks.

Why two checks? Especially if I can also pay with cash?

Since this is a special off-site event at South Station, rather than at the actual Post Office, you can pay by check or money order. But the Postal Service does not want to have any cash on site for security reasons. The two checks are necessary - one is made out to the US Postal Service for processing fees ($30). The other is made out to the State Department ($67) for the actual application fee: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/fees/fees_837...

but in your original post you said "Only cash and checks will be accepted to process applications on site". So I'm now very confused.

Also, if I'm renewing an expired passport rather than getting a new one, is the fee lower?

I'm presuming that the cost of having photos taken there is additional, beyond the fees you listed.

My apologies. The original post was right. Cash is accepted. We are hosting a similar event in another location and the terms were different. If you're paying in cash and acquiring a new passport, it is $30 to the postal service and $67 to the State Dept. If you are renewing - you can just mail the renewal application with the old passport and new photos along with the $67 to:

National Passport Processing
P.O. Box 13349
Philadelphia, PA 19101-3349
http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/renew/renew_8...

Photos cost $15

Where are the other locations that you will be doing this? Also will the normal time apply in the applications received for new passports? Such as two weeks with the extra $60.

thank you Please email me if possible bmg71 at comcast dot net (no spaces and . instead of dot in email) thanks again

... and still haven't gotten my passport, nine weeks later. Is this typical?
