Batteries die, belts snap, hoses crack

Are traffic reporters like TV weather people - does extreme weather excite them? Cindy and Jeff over at SmartRoutes predict extended periods of breakdowns tomorrow due to the bone-chilling temps. In fact, better get your car to a mechanic now, they advise, to make sure your car will get you where you're going tomorrow, rather than leaving you stranded by the side of 128 as smarter motorists whiz by, ignoring you as you slowly freeze to death because you also ignored Cindy and Jeff's exhortation to top off your tank, charge your cell phone fully and dress in layers.

Watching all of the news stations coverage of cold weather last night really reminded me how horrible local news coverage is.

7 News, of course, threw out as much alliteration as possible (BITTER BLAST!!!!), while Jack Williams actually started the newscast by saying, "Brrrr!". Channel 4 then did a report where they interviewed a Mass Pike toll worker who had to endure "extreme temperatures" in the cold while collecting tolls from dumb drivers who still aren't smart enough to get a Fast Lane transponder. Waaah!

I think the lack of large snowstorms this year really has all those local TV reporters and editors depressed, so anything different causes them to drool with mass hysteria.

Hey dunderheads, it's just cold weather. Put on an extra sweater, bundle up or just don't go outside!
