Just try buying some winter clothes now

Lisa Williams goes to her local Target in search of some seasonal kids' attire and discovers:

Shorts! Pants that do not proceed all the way to the ankles! The shoe aisle features sandals. There are bathing suits everywhere!

IT'S FEBRUARY! IN MASSACHUSETTS! IT IS VERY, VERY COLD HERE! ...

She notes that Target is headquartered in Minnesota, which suggests they are at least somewhat familiar with the concept of "winter."

I learned long ago that Target's best seasonal clothing sales are about three months before the targeted weather hits. They don't have raincoats in April or shorts in August, either.

I splurged on a pair of nice Sorrel boots on sale - in early October - and then fretted that I spent too much. All worries melted away when we had the FlashFreeze in early December, followed by pretty much the biggest December storm in history (2003). I later discovered that the funny bumps on the boots were perfectly placed for snowshoe bindings.

I buy my kids their boots in early October at the latest. Never anything around after the real weather hits.

Kristie goes in (fruitless) search of decent winter clothes at the Dedham Old Navy. But she ultimately finds an amazing skirt at Ann Taylor Loft.
