They probably weren't trying to get a good seat for Sunday services
What is it about Mission Church that makes the out-of-town kiddies want to break into it? For the second time in seven months, police report arresting young'uns for breaking into a building at the Mission Church complex. This time, it was seven people, between 19 and 22, allegedly spotted breaking into a church building on Smith Street shortly after 10 last night. Six of the seven came out only after the police yelled they were going to sic a K-9 on them; the seventh later turned herself into police.
Based on stuff like Facebook and student directories, two of the seven look to be Wesleyan students. One of the four who list Roxbury addresses could be a Simmons student.

urban explorers, not burlgars?
Based on the location, sounds like these are college students exploring an abandoned (and sadly soon-to-be-demolished) old theatre behind the church:
St. Alphonsus Hall, Mission Hill
Which is a worse crime -- wanting to look around in there, or letting it fall into ruin for so long?

Blown Out Of Proportion?
I personally think this whole thing is just silly. I understand FULLY that it is illegal to do and shouldn't go unpunished but i'm pretty sure these kids had no intent to cause harm or create a problem. I've heard about the buildings behind this church and heard that they are very interesting. Even if you go to the link provided in the comment before my own, you can see how beautiful the theatre is. It's a spectacular thing to see when you're that age with nothing to do. Now I know I keep calling them kids and I know of the kids who were involved with the last "break in" (even though they were never spotted or known to be in the building..but hey) and they were all around the same age...whether they are considered kids to you or not is irrellevent, what matters here is that I do personally believe it's blown out of proportion. Worse happens everyday in boston and I can't believe another group of kids have to go through what the other did. The giving out of myspaces and backgrounds given out on random websites seems like harassment to me and shouldn't have happened. But good luck kids, it was stupid but after all of this is done, you'll never commit another crime again....TRUST ME.
They are adults
19 to 22 years old makes them adults.
If they had gained entry into this crumbling building and done something and gotten hurt, everyone would scream and cry that the police were not doing anything to protect these poor children. And then the lawsuits would come. Against the building owners and against the city. The police should arrest them. Kudos.
Why does it matter that "even though they were never spotted or known to be in the building"? If I recall they had "burglarious" tools and were found prying away the wood. So if someone is trying to break into your home, hey no harm no foul if they don't gain entry??
oh yeah?
Oh yeah? You sure about that, were you there that night? Because I happen to know FOR A FACT...that they weren't even spotted at the building. They were found right at the gate enterance..so get your facts straight before you put them down...thank you..
See below, if someone's at
See below, if someone's at your gate trying to pry it open (if you have a gate) but not on your property yet, then they're automatically not trying to break into your home?
Trespassing covers all the grounds, I believe.
Now I know I keep calling
Now I know I keep calling them kids and I know of the kids who were involved with the last "break in" (even though they were never spotted or known to be in the building..but hey)
So if you come upon someone trying to open the door to your home, but you catch them before they're in, then they weren't breaking into your home?
Good to know.
