Revamped Adams Park officially reopens; farmers' market returns

Mayor Walsh cuts a ribbon in Roslindale

Marty Walsh cuts ribbon with help of neighborhood kids and giant golden scissors.

Roslindale residents, city parks workers and elected officials gathered in Adams Park this morning to rededicate the park after a summer-long renovation project that features new walkways and benches - and a new irrigation system that means volunteers will no longer have to water plants by hand.

After the speechifying and the ribbon cutting, people ambled about enjoying the return of the weekly farmers' market from the train-station parking lot.

Steve Gag, president of Roslindale Village Main Street said the park, not even an acre in size, is particularly important to Roslindale residents. He noted the care with which residents have kept the park up. He said the linden trees around the park appear to have been planted when the park first opened in 1920 - and he said he hopes they stay around for another 100 years.
