Christmas comes to Roslindale
Santa alighted from a Boston firetruck this afternoon to usher in the Christmas season in Adams Park along with Mayor Walsh.
Mayor Walsh and a local kid pushed the lever to turn on the tree:
On Small Business Saturday, Walsh promoted a 5 On Main program aimed at getting residents to buy at least five presents from local shops.
Among those on the stage for some reason was the Red Sox's Larry Lucchino. Walsh thanked him for giving Boston two early presents. "Bring back Lester!" a man shouted as Lucchino took the microphone.
A number of dogs circulated in the park, many dressed in their Christmas finest, some also wearing signs against the Petco Unleashed store proposed for the Square.
Also in attendance: The Rat King.
And, of course, a brass quartet played Christmas standards.

Not Just Any "Local Kid."
That's Anthony Garufi. Anthony was one of Mayor Menino's favorite Rozzi Rats and could often be seen at Hizzoner's side during Mayoral visits. Mayor Walsh obviously has excellent ground intelligence in the square in terms of knowing who pulls the levers around these parts! The torch (er, Tree-lighting lever) has been passed!
Cool, thanks
Well, if you're going to pick somebody who's family has helped bring back Roslindale (and soon Hyde Park), even aside from politics, you could do worse than the Garufis.
why was larry lucchino there?
any speculation? just seems weird that he'd show up in rozzie.
Beats me
But he held up his shop-locally bag and urged people to shop locally.
Actually, he filled up two,
Actually, he filled up two, maybe three bags with way more than five purchases, especially straight from Italy cheeses and pastas from one of the shops, and was clearly delighted with some of his finds, promising to come back again.
Adam, you missed a critical element
...of the celebration. I don't see any coverage of the reindog competition!
True
Left earlier than I would've preferred because I had a very cold kid getting increasingly grumpy about said fact. But at least I got photos of some of the Xmas'ed-out dogs - two of them shown in the original post.
