Boston 2024 overseer moves up six years to Boston 2030

Mayor Walsh announced today that Sara Myerson, who had been overseeing Boston 2024 for him will now oversee the city's Boston 2030 master-planning effort.

"Now is our chance to set the course for the next generation by creating a comprehensive plan for Boston, and Sara has shown that she will efficiently lead this multi-year effort," said Mayor Walsh. "Sara is committed to our core values of affordable housing and creating a Boston that is thriving, healthy and innovated and we're thrilled she has stepped up to lead Imagine Boston." ...

She previously served as the Chief of Staff and Director of Policy at Preservation of Affordable Housing in Boston, which owns and operates nearly 8,500 affordable housing rental homes throughout the country.

The private Boston 2024 effort had paid Myerson's salary; there is no equivalent group for city planning efforts. 2030 will mark the city's 400th anniversary.

Does anyone have ANY confidence in a Boston Olympics swindle person being moved to city master planning?

World class, my butt. We're a hilarious banana republic.

I don't know what this appointment means.

Supposedly the mayor has an ongoing national search for a new chief planner.

What is the point of that position if you give responsibility of the citywide plan to an amateur?

She did work in affordable housing and has a masters from Harvard in urban planning. It's not like Walsh hired the other Marty Walsh to do this or something.

Nice degree but every junior planner at the BRA has more planning experience than she has.

What "world class" new chief planner will want the job if the best part of the job description has already been taken?

She's essentially been promoted to chief planner based on...what exactly?

I wonder what the plans for Widett Circle will look like..,

Marty's comment when she was hired:

“Her strengths were the financial background at Goldman Sachs, putting big deals together,” Walsh said."

Lots of other city press releases when she got the Olympic gig, no mention of any planning experience.

Today's Globe makes it clear that her first priority is Widett Circle.

With Olympic bid dead, city ponders Widett Circle’s future
