Hold your next company meeting in Boston in February: Think of all the work you'll get done because you can't go outside

#BostonBringItOn

The Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau uses clips of people in the middle of summer talking about how great Boston is for meetings in the middle of winter.

I never got to the final day of this year's Boskone science-fiction convention at the Westin Waterfront hotel, next door to the BCEC. The MBTA didn't run any service that day, Sunday, February 15.

boskone has been low-rent for a long time now

but we can always talk about that at one of their traditional "where are all the young fans?" panels.

(and Arisia) are in the winter is because hotel rates are low then. There have been other groups around then, though; there was a boat show in the convention center Arisia weekend either this year or last.

This year's Traditional Boskone Blizzard (tm) was, of course, the Big One that knocked the T out.

You know, if they didn't make so many references to how bad the weather gets one might not think it was a big deal. How many other city's promotional videos feature a director of aviation saying the airport can safely land planes? I generally take the ability for planes to land safely for granted.

This is like a restaurant advertising that no one has sued them for food poisoning in the past year.

that the video is a joke right?

It has a certain frivolity to it, Jimmy Tingle is hardly Alistair Cooke, but how is this a joke? I mean it's not a total farce or something, they actually do want people to bring their business meetings and conferences to Boston. Addressing the weather issue is a little odd, but the only (in theory) funny part is Tingle's joke about his wife taking his space - the rest of them seem pretty earnest about it. If there is a tongue in the cheek here I'm not picking it up. And no doubt what Regan Communications Group got paid to produce it is no joke.

For three weeks in a row I was supposed to leave on a Monday, and had to shift my flight ahead a day -- and still had delays, including sitting on the runway.

I mean, that's life. I don't blame BOS or anyone else. But don't tell me that the airport "didn't miss a beat" because that's a bunch of bologna.

Whether or not any given airline would risk flying planes into it was a daily crapshoot.

I missed two meetings down in the Carolinas because of cancelled flights. Fortunately, my son's February Vacation school trip got out and back, and my escape from Hoth was uneventful as well. Both of those trips straddled major storms by sheer luck, and those left behind struggled with the loss of 1/4 of our collective snow removal power.

From Rep. Sanchez's lastest newsletter:

"After the MBTA shut down and crippled the city this past winter, we in the House acted swiftly to address these problems and prepare for the future. If you’ve had to take a shuttle, it’s because the MBTA was installing new third rails and switch heaters to allow for better reliability during the winter. While these are steps in the right direction, I will continue to fight to improve the MBTA."

So good news residents of JP/Brookline/Rosi - your state rep is super proud of how he's addressed all the issues that you faced this winter by making sure the Red Line will work better.

Does this guy do any work besides showing up at meetings to smugly make a lot of noise, crap on everyone, and dramatically leave?

Do you mean me or Rep Sanchez?

I really only crapped on those Petco meetings...

Alongside this, the MBTA would excel at promoting telecommuting.
