Starbucks looks to conquer Park Square by replacing melted cheese with coffee, pastries

Starbucks goes before the Zoning Board of Appeals next week for permission to change the shuttered Melting Pot fondue place in the Park Plaza Hotel into a, well, Starbucks.

Park Plaza guests who now want the Starbucks experience have to walk a full two-tenths of a mile to the Starbucks in the Transportation Building.

City zoning ordinances require all take-out uses to win approval of the zoning board.

The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the board's eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

It's too bad that nothing seems to last in that spot.

I'd prefer a full-service restaurant in that location since I think it brings in more money (and tax revenue) and a "less-transient" crowd, but I guess Starbucks is okay, too. (If it takes the full space that will be very large, won't it?)

Especially for a place that sold hot cheese.

It is .2 mi in any direction to a Starbucks or Au Bon Pain. That's kind of crazy.

Are they subdividing? That would be one big Starbucks.

A block is not conquered until Starbucks is on 3 of 4 corners. And there is an espresso cart in every lobby and in the front of every grocery store.

Just got back from visiting family in Seattle and my caffeine levels are slowly dropping back to normal. So much espresso everywhere.
