Fried catfish

Ludwig Van Morrison asks:

Ever since Johnny Ds closed I haven't known where to get fried catfish for brunch, suggestions?

I know Border Cafe has had it, haven't checked lately. Also not sure about brunch.

Remember having it there (though not at brunch time) and it being surprisingly good.

on some menus:

Tupelo in Inman Square does blackened catfish.

Morse Fish in the South End is basic and excellent: broiled or fried.

Darryl's in the South End does catfish a few ways: strips, tacos, blackened and fried.

Highland Kitchen in Spring Hill, Somerville does a blackened catfish po' boy.

At Elephant Walk in the South End, the Cambodian prep called trey tuk peng pah is currently done with catfish, though sometimes it's grouper or snapper.

It's also pretty common to see claypot catfish on Vietnamese menus and Viet-Cajun menus. Look at Pho Le, Holly Crab, Brother's Crawfish, and the like.

Soulfire in Brigham Circle and on Harvard St in Allston. Try the fried catfish with collard greens and mac and cheese!

It was so good at Johnny D's too — good fish, with only a very light breading. I've had it other places where it's mostly crust and oil. :(
