At crack of midnight, you can get it on, smoke a bong
By adamg on Wed, 12/14/2016 - 3:00pm
The Globe reports the Governor's Council performed one of its obscure constitutional tasks today and certified the passage of Question 4, which means that recreational marijuana becomes legal at midnight.
The city of Boston forwards these tips for people at least 21:
- Adults may carry up to one ounce of marijuana in public. Five grams of that may be a marijuana concentrate.
- Adults cannot have more than ten ounces of marijuana in their residence.
- Each resident in the state can grow up to six plants, but there can be no more than 12 plants in a household. Adults must grow plants in their primary residence in a locked or secured location.
- Plants cannot be visible from a public space without the use of binoculars, an aircraft or other visual aids.
- Residents and visitors cannot smoke in public parks in Boston. This includes marijuana and tobacco.
- "No smoking" means residents cannot inhale, exhale, burn or carry any: lighted cigar, cigarette, or pipe, lighted or vaporized substance in any manner or form. This includes marijuana, even if it's used for medical reasons.
- Under the law, resident cannot have an open container of marijuana or marijuana products in their motor vehicle. Offenders can be fined up to $500 for each offense. "Open container" means a package of marijuana or marijuana products with a broken seal, or with some of the contents removed. Residents must keep an open container in a locked glove compartment or trunk.
- The new law doesn't change the existing state laws for operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana. It's still illegal, and subject to the same fines and penalties.

Not to rain on anyone's
Not to rain on anyone's parade but corporations that deal with the federal gov't are already saying not so fast if you want to work for us, it's still not legal at that level. It may still be part of their drug testing array and you'll probably be denied employment.
afaik the few places that still test only do so once, upon hire,
and then never again
Random testing
I am aware of businesses that employ drivers that require drug testing on hire and then will do random testing, and yes people have failed and been fired.
I don't smoke
Ok..... maybe like twice a year.
My multinational company never drug tested me, however they just recently made all of us sign promissory notes saying we wouldn't do drugs.
From what I gather the request was only issued to certain states.
Maybe as a legal remedy in the event of a suit for employees in states that have decriminalize.
If you can't pass an employer
If you can't pass an employer given drug test, you don't deserve the job.
I go into the labs high as hell and pass with ease.
Interesting
Do you happen to work as a Russian athlete?
nah
Doesn't need to... a gazillion products on the internet that will help you pass a drug test. Friends highly (pun intended) recommend iPee. Works every single time.
Marijuana test is done by hair, not pee.
And it's actually one of the harder drugs to mask. Either way, you can just get a card and you should be all set.
No, the test is largely done
No, the test is largely done by urine. Yes hair is one option but it is far less common, and also much more difficult to pass.
Having a medical card will do nothing to protect your job from a drug screen.
I've only seen the hair test.
But I admit I've only seen it for about 4 jobs.
I would assume that if a doctor allows you to use it, a company can't just start saying you can't use it (off the job). I would assume you might have some legal standing there.

Bogus test
Totally discredited. Completely fake. It exists to fulfill the punitive wishes of the reefer madness infected politicians and pour money into the coffers of the "testing" companies.
I'd rather have Annie Dookhan look over my sample. http://www.nature.com/articles/srep14906
Courts have ruled them valid time and time again.
There are hiccups here and there, but it is as valid as you can get for a simply scientific study.
I know someone who recenetly took a drug test
and they said it was just a mouth swab, which my understanding tests more for opioids than weed.
Nope
Not always. Its company dependent. Most companies will not do a hair test because it's too costly, especially for new hire screenings. Urine tests are cheaper and one test can provide answers for many different types of drugs. Not say that Urine tests are cheap.. I think last time I looked into it for an employer it was around 25-50 PER drug. Hair was 150 per drug. Of course, this was a few years ago so mileage may vary.
The only two places I've ever heard of doing hair tests is Blockbuster Video (ya they did this) and Whelen (who is a Gov't contractor).
Casinos
I've heard of casinos doing hair tests, but that was back in the '90s.
Yeah, I'm a fed and smoke a
Yeah, I'm a fed and smoke a couple times a year, but holding off for now. Suspect they'll amp up the random testing for a bit. Also need to see who the new DEA guy is going to be.
Oh Lawds!
Is I in heaven?
Heaven?
KEVIN?????
Disappointed
Thought the BPD release was going to be like a "Marijuana for Dummies." Disappointed.
Changes the party dynamic
An illegal substance is now legal, and I'm headed to a party tomorrow night. Having experienced a similar social situation at conferences shortly after Colorado and Washington legalized, this definitely changes the social landscape if there is an outdoor smoking area available that is not public. It will be a lot of fun to see how technology people navigate the new era of open use.

At a conference tho? Nah dawg.

Major party - the one in Seattle was at the Experience Music Project.
Turned out that a friend on mine was holding a vape, and gathering up interested folk to take a walk.

A music conference is very different than my kind of conference, toke on.
Not so fun
I don't have anything against pot personally, but I don't look forward to people being even more open about smoking at social gatherings. It's been great now that smoking tabbaco is so socially frowned upon that most smokers are polite and excuse themselves to go further away from the group. Now we're back to walking through clouds of smoke at parties.
THANKS MASSACHUSETTS
Not an issue, actually
You still can't smoke weed somewhere if you can't smoke ciggies - you need private property, outdoors.
That said, once the bakeries and confectionaries get rolling, you won't have to smoke at all. I went to a concert in a firetrap concert hall in Oregon and there was a cutter on a string attached to a garbage can next to a bench. People sat there, used to cutter to open the human-proof packaging on their chocolates and brownies, and enjoyed their treats smoke-free.
Smoke
It would be illogical to think smoking of pot will decrease or only hold steady today going forward. There will soon be greater access to it and it's not nearly as socially unacceptable as other forms of smoking. If you find smoke of any sort annoying, this is not a positive change.
I voted for legalization and knew this was going to happen. You're welcome. Just try to be polite and go to the furtherest corner of the backyard or into another room.
I moved here from Washington
I moved here from Washington back in March. It turns out that fewer people smoke marijuana when they can buy marijuana candies, tinctures, and the like, in neat packages that tell you how much THC is in each teaspoon, and suggest starting with a quarter teaspoon if you're inexperienced. Almost nobody actually likes having smoke in their lungs, after all.
Courtesy goes a long way.
If you're at a party and someone lights up in the middle of a crowd, that's just rude. It's the same, to me, as lighting a cigarette in a similar situation. I've been a semi-regular pot smoker for 40 years and I never subject anyone to the smoke if they don't want it in his or her face. I don't smoke cigarettes and wouldn't want someone lighting up next to me.
That you know of
With city housing, if you've smoked at home on a porch or with windows open, you can't say for sure that you haven't bothered someone. I have smokers of both plants in the three decker next to me, and pot smokers across the street, and one reason I'm looking forward to retirement to the opposite extreme of housing density is so I can enjoy the outdoors without constantly being drenched in someone else's stench.
With city housing
You know that other people have rights to do things that you may not like in close proximity to your person.
You also know that you don't get to play the victim card to prevent people from exercising their rights or keep making up all these special rules that go beyond already reasonable restrictions.
If you can't get along with other people who are being both legal and largely considerate, reconsider your living situation.
Understood.
I'm not big on using community washers and dryers in my building either but you know, that's what happens in a community. We can choose where we live and you have to accept things you don't like sometimes. Or you can make the choice to live a more isolated existence.
I think you should note that
I think you should note that one person on the council (in spite of the vote tally) voted against certifying this.

Yes!
Ahhh ok, I didn't select "Filtered HMTL"! I'm fairly well versed in HTML coding so I couldn't understand why the IMG tag wasn't working. Thanks for the heads up!
Half-assed measures never work
Just ask the folks in DC, where recreational weed is legal, but selling it is still illegal. The circular logic is if you want it, grow it, which is fine in theory, but in practice..... The long and short of it is, people still sell weed, and cops are powerless to do anything about it. Same thing goes for Amsterdam. If you're going to let adults do it, go all the way already.
You can put your weed in
You can put your weed in there!

Ohter important notes
You aren't going to have
You aren't going to have "smoky parks." It's not like all pot smokers are now going to convene and smoke huge doobies everywhere they can. Sure some might and most likely a younger crowd.but it won't be masses of people doing it. You'll still have your smoky parks more from cigs than pot.
Most of us just want to be able to cut out the criminal aspect of it and grow our own or be able to buy it from a shop without fear of losing everything.
wondering..
wondering about the driving issue and if it will be enforced. On my motorcycle (in the warmer months) riding behind people I can always smell them. It sounds weird but if they are smoking, vaping, or just with a ton of cologne/perfume, I can smell it. It doesnt take a sniffing dog to smell that someones smoking weed in front of you, even in a car. And I'd say on a typical commute or weekend ride, i'm behind a few dozen people per ride smoking weed. This annoys me, because while its probably not as bad as drinking and driving.. its still impaired driving and it seems socially acceptable. (more so than drinking).
I know the cops dont enforce texting and driving (IMHO - worse than drinking and driving and about 90% of commuters do it). Wondering if this issue will be the same..
(disclosure - i dont smoke, but I supported the act to legalize)
A note on drug tests for weed
The problem with drug testing for weed is that it does not correlate with intoxication. Weed can be detected in a person's system for up to 30 days after it is last used. Unfortunately, the effects do not last that long, so despite the fact that I wait until after work to blaze I could theoretically lose my job if my company did drug testing, despite not being under the influence at work.
Correct
And most tests.. for urine weed testing.. do not test for a positive for THC, but a threshold value. THC naturally occurs in the body, its the high levels that set of the detection.
30 days is relative to the smoker. Daily, all day smoker.. Try 90 days. But if you smoke maybe once a couple of times a year, you'd probably pass a test easily because you'd still remain under the threshold.. Of course mileage will vary depending on your body.
Locked/secured location
What exactly does "locked or secured location" mean? My home is locked/secured. Why would I need to an additional place to lock/secure? There has never been a child in my house, so who am I locking this away from?
Look up the gun laws.
Probably very similar
I also hear that no one will
I also hear that no one will be allowed to sell it, even the stores until Jan 2018 or later because right now that part is still illegal! So in the meantime who's giving out gifts of marijuana ? I need innnnn lol I don't have the patience to grow my own.
