Mayor Walsh cuts a ribbon in Roslindale

Marty Walsh cuts ribbon with help of neighborhood kids and giant golden scissors.

Roslindale residents, city parks workers and elected officials gathered in Adams Park this morning to rededicate the park after a summer-long renovation project that features new walkways and benches - and a new irrigation system that means volunteers will no longer have to water plants by hand.

After the speechifying and the ribbon cutting, people ambled about enjoying the return of the weekly farmers' market from the train-station parking lot.

Revamped Adams Park

New benches, paths, grass at revamped park.

The fences came down a few days ago, but the formal re-opening of Adams Park in Roslindale Square is tomorrow at 9 a.m., with a re-dedication ceremony. A ribbon will, of course, be cut.

The farmers' market, which had been held up at the commuter-rail station, will re-open in the park tomorrow as well. It will then run through Nov. 22.

Menino and switch

Mayor contemplates the switch he just threw for the last time as mayor.

As he's done for longer than many of the people in attendance have been alive, Tom Menino threw the ceremonial switch that lit up the Christmas tree in Adams Park in Roslindale - which was part of his city-council district when he suddenly became mayor in 1993.

Matthew Wilding reports somebody is leaving headless pigeons strewn about Adams Park in Roslindale Square.

Ed. note: Or some thing, mwa-ha-ha. In either case, don't click on that link unless you want to see one of said strewn headless pigeons.

Busted bollards

Seems somebody didn't know how to stop at the end of Cummins Highway in Roslindale Square early this morning and plowed right into the entrance of Adams Park. A couple of concerned citizens filed complaints about the poor cleanup by the DPW at what is a main entrance to the morning's farmers' market, which, as we know, is one of the biggest in the city.

Farmer's market is happening with lots of people and it seems a bit dangerous.

Radishes

The Roslindale Farmers' Market opened its 2011 season this morning in Adams Park, with fresh produce and meat from local farms and knicknacks of all sorts. Also music. This guy really knew how to blow his own horn:

Bob Ward was on hand for the annual Roslindale Easter-egg hunt this morning.

Here's hoping they got a permit from ISD - we wouldn't want children scarred for life seeing the Easter Bunny being tossed into the back of a cruiser.

The hunt is this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Adams Park. Video by RoslindaleVillage.

Oh, noes, the giant red pin that marked Rozzie Square as one of Boston's cultural epicenters is gone! Does this mean people will no longer flock to the Square to see all the sights? Or was it just a safety measure to keep four-year-olds from bonking into it during the annual Easter Egg hunt there?

Adams Park

I admit I was kind of surprised the other day to see the city had put one of its staycation pins in Adams Park in Roslindale Square. Don't get me wrong, I love our little square, but I just don't see it as a tourist destination. In any case, tonight there was a little festival in Adams Park as part of National Night Out. Girls from the Hyde Park School of Dance danced, while students at the Center for Asian Martial Arts in Rozzie showed off their moves, including this kid:
