Exposed paving stones and tracks in Roslindale Square

On South Street, near where it turns into Belgrade Avenue.

Crews have been stripping the asphalt from the roads of Roslindale Square this week for repaving and restriping. And on South and Corinth Street, they've exposed patches of the old paving stones and trolley tracks that used to support the trains powered by the old substation at Washington Street and Cummins Highway.

New joint coming

Of course, I had to rush home to dish up this news: Roslindale Square is getting another ice-cream place. Jimmies, opening soon on Corinth Street, next to Imperial Kitchen, will also serve food on buns.

Currently, Roslindale residents who need ice cream have to travel down to Belgrade for Select Cafe, the former Emack and Bolios. The cafe, which is more of a coffeehouse that serves ice cream, is currently redecorating a bit - and no longer requires people to ask for a key at the counter for the restroom.

Soon all those cheap suitcases chained together that nobody ever seemed to buy will only be a memory: Jax on Corinth Street is closing up shop, which will leave the Square with only one discount shop and which gets Tom Nealon to thinking the joint might make a good new place for his Pazzo Books:

... It's huge and pretty busted up, but a nice location and plenty of room. ...
