City councilors today agreed with a move by Councilor Ed Flynn (South Boston, South End, Chinatown, Downtown) to look at doing way more to keep pedstrians alive - the day after a man in a wheelchair died under the wheels of a concrete truck on Frontage Road and the week after a 4-year-old girl died under the wheels of a pickup behind the Children's Museum. Boston city councilors today condemned what they call an abuse by the state-owned Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Crossing: Boston student athletes have to clear out by 3:30 p.m. so busloads of students from well-off suburbs can use its state-of-the-art facilities for training and not get home too late. Boston City Council President Ed Flynn sent two proposed resolutions on Israel and Palestine to a committee for further study and hearings.

The council's committee of the whole - basically, the entire council - will now schedule hearings on a resolution by Councilor Michael Flaherty (at large) to support Israel and condemn Hamas and a separate one by Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson (Roxbury) calling for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
