Left Ahead posts an hour-long interview with Chang-Diaz, making her second run for the 2nd Suffolk Senate seat now held by Dianne Wilkerson.

Announces bid on Blue Mass Group. She'll be running, again, against 2nd Suffolk incumbent Dianne Wilkerson, who perhaps will pay a bit more attention to filing deadlines this time around.

Sonia Chang-Diaz offers concession after recount in the Democratic 2nd Suffolk state senate primary.

Mass. Marrier cautions:

... Unless an angel of wisdom or self-control visits her, Wilkerson is likely to make supporting her impossible. She barely managed to do that this time.

By adamg - 9/29/06 - 3:21 pm

Cos, a Chang-Diaz supporter, reports from the recount at City Hall (via a Treo):

... It's 2:30pm and we've only counted 20-something of the 73 precincts, so this is almost certainly going to continue into the evening. ...

By adamg - 9/28/06 - 8:50 am

Mass. Marrier continues to come to terms with the expected re-election of progressive yet fatally flawed Dianne Wilkerson in the 2nd Suffolk:

... Wilkerson is not the only egomaniac who expects and often gets voters to overlook her inability to control her appetites and her disregard for the rules the rest of us play by, so long as she can show the a record of good votes. Yet, her prolonged and painful disregard for law, decency and the public should disqualify her from consideration for office. ...

The city will recount most of the votes, but not in the two wards where she fell short of the required 50 signatures. Chang-Diaz will sue to get those wards counted.

Given the clearly odd results in that race (remember: city election workers failed to file results in eight precincts) why didn't the secretary of state and the mayor simply declare a full recount?

On Blue Mass. Group, Will discusses why he's working hard to help get the required signatures (by 5 today) to force a complete recount in the Dianne Wilkerson/Sonia Chang-Diaz primary:

Blue Mass. Group has the details on the latest in the ongoing 2nd Suffolk state-Senate fiasco.

Dan Kennedy, meanwhile, uses pesky facts to show that Dianne Wilkerson either lies or just has a bad memory when it comes to her going negative on opponents in the past.

By adamg - 9/21/06 - 7:05 pm

Incumbent felon's lead increases to 702 votes; Challenger Chang-Diaz yet to concede.

By adamg - 9/21/06 - 5:52 pm

Political Intelligence is at City Hall; so far, Wilkerson is gaining even more votes.

By adamg - 9/21/06 - 2:36 pm

While we await the recount of the 2nd Suffolk senate results, let's take a look at Cos's account of working on the Chang-Diaz campaign on election day:

... Signs of trouble started early in the evening: the first time I got a call from a volunteer asking "they're supposed to count the votes, right?" I almost didn't know what to make of it. ...

By adamg - 9/20/06 - 10:34 pm

Oopsies. Seems elections officials missed eight precincts in the 2nd Suffolk state seate race, and a judge ordered a Thursday afternoon recount. Incumbent Dianne Wilkerson had a 141-vote lead in the all write-in race (in which she somehow failed to file enough signatures on time to get her name on the ballot).

Mass. Marrier: Wilkerson has declared victory. TBD.

By adamg - 9/20/06 - 9:59 am

Steve Garfield blames Diaz and Kelleher voters for keeping Dianne Wilkerson on the ballot in the 2nd Suffolk state-senate race. Neither came anywhere close enough to win themselves, but they got enough votes to hand incumbent felon Dianne Wilkerson a 141-vote victory (see results here, scroll down the page):

... It's ironic that they wanted Wilkerson out, but by voting as they did, kept her in for the final. ...

Steve Garfield lives in state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson's district. He provides a video snippet on how to write in a candidate in Massachusetts (since, of course, none of the candidates are actually on the ballot).

Mass Marrier, who glumly notes that Boston has a long tradition of re-electing convicted felons, attended last night's debate between incumbent felon Dianne Wilkerson and challenger Sonia Chang-Diaz:

... Unbidden, the others I was with left the auditorium saying, "Sonia's toast." ...

On Blue Mass. Group, BlueCellular takes a look at some interesting items in Wilkerson's latest campaign-finance report.

Dianne Wilkerson and Sonia Chang-Diaz debate Tuesday, Sept. 12 at English High School starting at 8 p.m.

Via Adam Reilly, who is expecting a wild show.

Blue Mass. Group posts two versions of an interview with one of Dianne Wilkerson's opponents in the Sept. 19 primary, here and here.

By adamg - 8/21/06 - 11:07 pm

Those teases at Blue Mass. Group say another Democrat could be getting ready to run a sticker campaign against state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson - but don't say who.

Because the incumbent forgot how to collect enough signatures on time, she is herself running a sticker campaign, currently against Sonia Chang-Diaz, another Democrat (Blue Mass. Group interview with her), and Samiyah Diaz, an alleged Republican who is running her sticker campaign in the Democratic primary next month.

By adamg - 8/8/06 - 7:40 pm

Writing as a voter, not a reporter, Kimberly Atkins says she has no idea whom to vote for in the write-in election between state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, Sonia Chang-Diaz and Samiyah Diaz.

By adamg - 5/27/06 - 12:14 am

First the city election department rejects her appeal and rules she didn't collect enough signatures to get on the ballot. Then she learns that Sonia Chang-Diaz of Jamaica Plain will run a sticker campaign against her for the Democratic nomination. And another Democrat or two could jump in.
