Lion's mane jellyfish

Gary Waldeck was walking his dog on Carson Beach today when he realized they were sharing the beach with some of those lion's mane jellyfish that have been turning up all over lately. And no, he didn't manipulate the photo at all - he reports it really looked like that.

Jellyfish in Boston Harbor

Moon jellyfish are flooding Boston Harbor, moving with the tides and occasionally puffing themselves into balloon-like shapes to pulse themselves a few inches forward at a time. The large rings are their reproductive organs.

Where did all these jellyfish come from?

Wicked Local Concord reports that a) there are freshwater jellyfish and b) they've been found by the thousands in Walden Pond.

After I took care of the administration of justice in Suffolk County, I went for a walk along the harbor. Near Columbus Park, I saw a lot of trash in the water. But that "bag" on the left is actually a jellyfish.
