trees!

No, we didn't go up to New Hampshire today. We took a walk along the path that meanders through Stony Brook Reservation on the Hyde Park/West Roxbury line, ending up at the dock across Turtle Pond from the one you normally see on Enneking Parkway. For a few seconds, we had some company:

Snow joke

For some reason, these guys didn't seem too interested in the snowblowers at the Dedham Lowe's today. Inside, the kidlet and I amused ourselves by trying to turn on every single singing Christmas ornament and dancing Santa all at once - as well as blasting these Trans Siberian Orchestra-ish Christmas trees. Amazingly, we were not the only people doing this, although I think I was the only one above the age of 10. Get a taste of them below - then rush over to Lowe's to buy them and annoy the neighbors:

This was a beautiful morning to just stand on one of the docks at Turtle Pond in West Roxbury and look out, enjoying the subtle fall colors, the chirping birds and crickets, the occasional ripple on the pond's surface.

And then the third grader piped up: "I'm hungry!" And we were off to the grocery store to pick up the milk and eggs that was our real reason for going out.

More photos before I was pulled away:

Deb: It's that sweet fall air:

Have I mentioned how ridiculously freaking beautiful it is here this time of year? Seriously, I think I put up with the rest of the weather more cheerfully because it doesn't get any more insanely perfect than this. It's just amazing. ...

fall on the way

Sure, it was way warm today, but the view from the hill at Millennium Park makes it clear that fall is coming.
