State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz says people need to look beyond Christopher Columbus's reputation as a cruel murderer of both natives and the Spaniards he led and consider the history of the North End and how the statue represents both some of the neighborhood's original Italian immigrants and the fight to keep the North End from becoming an overbuilt district of expensive condos. Quest Eternal statue at Smith Playground in Allston

Bradley attended the formal re-opening of Smith Playground on Western Avenue in Allston today. The revamped playground features the new Casey Amphitheater, a children’s playspace and pump track - as well as Donald DeLue's Quest Eternal, which had been sitting in a dark storeroom for several years after the owners of the Prudential Center decided making room for a Tesla dealership and other space was more important than keeping the statue on Boylston Street.

First a tot lot on Beacon Hill got a bronze statue of a turtle (since moved into the shade so it no longer burns little kids). Now Smith Playground in Allston will be getting the 27-foot-tall "Quest Eternal" statue of a naked man reaching for the stars, or perhaps a towel, that was posed in front of the Boylston Street side of the Prudential Center until 2014. Irish Famine Memorial statue with a pigeon on her head

City officials say they're noodling ways to keep pigeons away from the statutes of the Irish Famine Memorial in Downtown Crossing, since signs urging people to stop feeding the damn birds have failed miserably.
