BWSC says crews finished repairs to a burst water main at 100 Tremont St. in Brighton's Oak Square and restored water service at 12:55 this morning.

Beacon Hill street turned into torrent

BWSC reports it had already shut off water in the area of Myrtle and Hancock streets for some repair work overnight when a contractor "broke a gate valve" at Hancock and Myrtle streets around 12:30 a.m., briefly creating a roaring river, complete with waterfalls. Read more.

WBZ reports a broken water main sent water towering into the air at Congress and High streets this morning.

Workers inadvertently opened up a water main on Wyvern Street at Hyde Park Avenue across from Pagel Playground and now BWSC is on scene trying to plug the hole and restore the water flow. It's the same basic location where a National Grid gas main burst into flames on New Year's Eve in 2017.

BWSC crews are on scene at Neponset Circle to fix a burst water main that has resulted in discolored water in Dorchester and at Mt. Vernon and Hancock streets on Beacon Hill for a water-main break that the commission says has not affected service there.

A water main burst Monday afternoon at Spring Park and Chestnut avenues, leaving residents near the Stony Brook T stop without water all night and into this morning. BWSC reports it hopes to have the water restored by noon.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the BWSC reported a water-main burst under Columbia Road where ht passes under the Southeast Expressway, near JFK/UMass station.

Boston Fire and BWSC crews are in the area of Summer and Purchase streets dealing with a water-main break (video). One resident of Thomas Park in South Boston reports water-pressure problems there and across City Point. Some of the water has gotten into the southbound O'Neill Tunnel.

State Police report arresting a man they say stole a BWSC water-tank truck this afternoon, then took it for a ride all the way down to Rhode Island, then drove back into Massachusetts, where he was arrested after deciding he no longer wanted to drive a truck with a tired flattened by a "tire deflation device." The Boston Water and Sewer Commission reports a crew is at Centre and South streets in West Roxbury, where they've shut off a water main so it can fix a leak in the big pipe.
