The Boston Sun reports that the current owners of the former Alexandra Hotel on Washington Street at Massachusetts Avenue are seeking BPDA permission to use what's left of the historic structures exterior as cladding for 13 stories with 76 condos. The developers last year had proposed 106 "compact" condos, but the Sun reports their current plans call for 33 of the tiny units, with 43 more commodious units.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved Planet Fitness's latest proposed 24-hour gym, in the former Boston Sports Club at 92-100 Massachusetts Ave., between Newbury Street and Commonwealth Avenue. Read more.

MassDOT announced today it will add protected bike lanes to the Mass. Ave. Bridge as part of a wintertime pilot involving signs and traffic barrels. Read more.

Perhaps she'd heard of the guy who urinated on a bus rolling down Mass. Ave. in Cambridge.

The developer constructing a two-building complex along and atop the turnpike at Mass. Ave. says it wants to outfit roughly 118,000 square feet of space as life-sciences labs and offices - about a quarter of the office space originally planned for the project. Read more.

This afternoon, roving UHub photographer Jed Hresko watched what happens when you're driving a truck full of fruit down Mass. Ave. in Cambridge and you can't be bothered to secure the back of the truck: Fruit goes flying everywhere.

The developers who won city approval in 2019 to keep three sides of the former Alexandra Hotel at Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue, gut the interior and add several floors to create a 13-story, 150-room boutique hotel have filed a request with the BPDA to instead turn what's left of the structure into a 13-story, 106-unit condo building. Tyler Brown pleaded guilty yesterday to a series of charges, including armed assault with intent to murder for an incident in May, 2020 in which he shot repeatedly at Boston police officers in the area of Chester Park on Massachusetts Avenue, one at close range - while on probation for a double stabbing in Chinatown in 2014. Boston Police report officers found a man with a stab wound at Massachusetts Avenue and Peirson Street around 8:35 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Read more.

Boston Police report arresting a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old who were ambling around Methadone Mile, one with a gun loaded with nine bullets in a magazine, the other with enough heroin or fentanyl to warrant a trafficking charge around 5:50 p.m. on Friday. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that James Witkowski got a fair trial in 2017 on aggravated-rape and first-degree murder and charges for the death of Lena Bruce in her South End apartment on July 12, 1992, which means he will spend the rest of his life in prison. Read more.

Three men face a total of 36 drug and gun charges related to alleged Mass and Cass drug dealing this year following their indictment by a Suffolk County grand jury last week, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which add it now has warrants for police to arrest 40 more people for dealing drugs along Methadone Mile.
