Boston firefighters at Massachusetts Avenue fire

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to a plumbing-supply company's storage building at 1180 Massachusetts Ave., this afternoon.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in the Ace Plumbing & Heating Supply building, the department reports.

Boston Police report arresting a local man and a Wilmington woman on charges they used a rock to smash open a window at Laced, 426 Massachusetts Ave. which they then entered aand did a bit of personal looting in the store, which had been more massively looted this past Sunday night. Read more.

Shortly after midnight, two people got themselves into the Boston Medical Center emergency room, one shot, one stabbed - just as victims were arriving by ambulance from the quintuple shooting at the Franklin Field development. They told police it happened somewhere on Massachusetts Avenue in Newmarket Square.

New concrete barriers along bike lane on Massachusetts Avenue

Massachusetts Avenue getting new, tougher bike-lane borders.

Scott couldn't help but notice the new concrete barriers lying amidst the plastic flexposts that motorists love to knock over and park on along a section of the Massachusetts Avenue bike lane south of Boylston Street.

Scott finds this two-panel statement on the fence over the turnpike on Boylston Street a welcome relief from the love locks that keep infesting the fence around the corner on Massachusetts Avenue.

I hope they let this remain up. A lot more worthwhile than combination locks!

Ghost bike at Harrison and Massachusetts avenue

Rev. Laura Everett says some words at a ghost-bike ceremony at Massachusetts and Harrison avenues today for Thomas Anderson, the bicyclist who died in a crash with a truck there on April 22. Numerous shots fired around 7:10 p.m. on Massachusetts Avenue, just south of the train bridge and near the Stop &amp Shop. Police shut the street between Victoria's Diner and Allstate Road for their investigation.

Boston Police are investigating a crash at Massachusetts and Harrison avenues around 9 a.m. that left a bicyclist dead.

Live Boston reports the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Boston Police report arresting Gary Dumas II, 25, on charges he tried to slice open somebody else with a box cutter during an argument around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday at Massachusetts Avenue and Newbury Street.

Arriving officers found Dumas and two other men, one of with a freshly opened cut on the back of his neck:

The Boston Licensing Board today granted permission to a global realty company to re-open a former SRO at 461 Massachusetts Ave., near Columbus Avenue, as a 17-unit "lodging house" aimed at business travelers and the odd medical student, with rents ranging from $1,650 to $2,150 a month. Read more.

Love locks

The love locks were back on the fence on Massachusetts Avenue over the turnpike this afternoon. The fence could come down if a developer succeeds in building a 17-story hotel and condo building.

The Peebles Corp. last week told the BPDA to get ready for detailed plans for a proposed 432,000-square foot building over the Massachusetts Turnpike and part of the Hynes T station that would include both a luxury hotel and condos - and money to help spur the renovation of the T station. A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle around 8:45 p.m. on the Mass. Ave. connector near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard and was rushed to nearby Boston Medical Center in serious condition. Boston and State Police shut the busy intersection and some surrounding roads, including the offramp from I-93 to allow for an investigation.
