Live Boston reports the pedestrian was hit on Cambridge Street at Spice Street and suffered injuries serious enough to have the homicide unit and fatal-accident reconstruction team called in. State Police shut the off ramp from I-93; BPD shut Cambridge at Maffa Way.

Dirt bikers and ATVers on the loose

State Police report they are hunting roughly 40 people on dirt bikes and ATVs they say began attacking an 82-year-old Brookline man near the Bowker Overpass, then kept following him as he tried to escape onto Storrow Drive and then beat him when he rolled down his window on Cambridge Street in Allston to yell for help this past Thursday night. The BPDA board yesterday approved a $2-billion project by Massachusetts General Hospital to replace several current buildings with a new two-wing structure that will add 1 million square feet of clinical and patient-bed space - and leave room for a possible expansion of the Charles/MGH station should the state ever extend the Blue Line down Cambridge Street. The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved a proposed cannabis shop at 31 Cambridge St. in Sullivan Square, roughly 1,500 feet from another proposed cannabis shop it approved a couple months ago. Read more.

Massachusetts General Hospital yesterday filed its latest plans for replacing several current buildings and a parking lot with a new two-wing building with 1 million square feet of new clinical space and patient rooms that could be more easily converted into ICU use in another pandemic - and which would include space for a headhouse, or entrance, for a possible Red/Blue Line station. In a 3-3 vote today, the Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a developer's plans for a two-building, 166-unit complex on Cambridge Street in Union Square that would have featured a sizeable number of "compact" units as well as some "affordable" studios aimed at artists. Read more.

The Beacon Hill Times reports the city is looking at updating the Cambridge Street library and that part of the study includes adding housing units to the site. At a meeting last week, residents asked that whatever the final plans, they should keep the library's unique hexagonal reading room.

The owners of Deep Ellum on Cambridge Street announced today they are shutting it forever on June 7 and will expand their neighboring Lone Star Taco Bar into its space once the state gives the OK to re-open restaurant dining areas. Read more.

Wanted for bicycle thievery

Boston Police report they're looking for this guy on charges he busted into the apartment building at 446 Cambridge St., near Rugg Road, around 11:30 p.m. on April 23 and stole a bicycle out of the building bike storage room and then used it to make a getaway with several packages he also took from the building. Read more.
